Joining the practice in 2025 is Dr Aqeel Hatia!

Born and raised in Welkom, Dr Hatia is a Free State boy through and through.
He completed his medical degree at the University of the Free State in 2021, and thereafter did his internship at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
Dr Hatia came back to his Free State roots for his community service at Boitumelo Regional Hospital in Kroonstad, where he worked in Anaesthesia as well as Internal Medicine - gaining significant experience in both fields.

He decided to stay on in Kroonstad after his community service to join Dr NJ Nel (Inc).
Dr Hatia has a keen interest in Anaesthesia and plans on furthering his studies in the field.

When free, Dr Hatia enjoys spending time with his family, watching and playing sports and also reading a good book.

Last but not least, we introduce the newest member of our team, Dr Delicia Moodley!

Dr Moodley is originally from Cape Town, and completed her medical degree at Stellenbosch University in 2020.
She then completed her two year internship during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic at 2 Military Hospital in Cape Town. Afterwards, she decided to stay on with the military for her community service, but wanted to focus on primary healthcare & family medicine. Therefore, in 2023 she worked for a year at Air Force Base Langebaanweg, a sickbay on the West Coast, which offered her time to build her skills in emergency medicine and general practice.

Dr Moodley enjoyed her time with the military, as well as working as a family practitioner, that she decided to pursue it further and transition into private practice.
She has joined Dr NJ Nel (inc) permanently as of January this year, and has so far been truly enjoying the transition from the city to a small town life.

Dr Moodley has keen interests in family medicine, women's health and dermatology, with plans to pursue further post-graduate studies. Her hobbies include reading, painting and hiking.

Introducing Dr Tasha Barnard!

Dr Barnard grew up in Pretoria and began her studies doing a BSc in Human Molecular Biology at the University of the Free State. She decided to pursue a medical degree in her final year, and graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2017.
Afterwards, she worked in both Bongani Hospital (Welkom) and Boitumelo Hospital (Kroonstad) during her internship, and completed her community service at Tokollo Hospital in Heilbron during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With such a well rounded level of experience, she ventured into private practice and has been working with Dr Nel since 2021.

Dr Barnard has decided to pursue further studies with the University of Edinburgh, and is currently obtaining her Master's Degree in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine.

Dr Barnard has recently celebrated the arrival of her first child, a beautiful baby girl, into her family. And when she isn't working or studying, she enjoys artistic hobbies such as painting and drawing.

We look forward to welcoming her back into our practice in June!

Next up in the "Meet the Doctors" series is Dr. Mike Claassens!

Dr Claassens completed his studies at Stellenbosch University in 1969, and his did housemanship at Karl Bremer Hospital in Cape Town. He came to Kroonstad in 1971 as a general practitioner, and has been here ever since.
With over 50 years of well rounded experience, Dr Claassens is a distinguished family practitioner and well loved in the community.

As much as Dr Claassens enjoys his work, he also enjoys reading, gardening, wine tasting and home maintenance.

Starting off our "Meet the Doctors" series we would like to introduce the founder of Dr NJ Nel (inc): Dr Niekie Nel!

Dr Nel graduated from the University of the Free State in 1988 and completed his housemanship in Kroonstad.
While working here, he fell in love with the town and its people, thereby influencing his decision to open his own general practice in 1991.
From 1991 to the present, he has over 30 years of expertise in family medicine, and also gained experience working in a rural clinic in Botswana.

With an Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health, Dr Nel also has keen interests in paediatrics and surgery.
When he isn't working he enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting and doing game drives.
