Good morning. This is what I hope will be a final appeal for donations for the ash wall repairs. Our builders need to work for another week in order to put everything in order and we are short of R5000 to pay them.
Could I ask you please to donate towards this. Should we get more than the R5000 we need, the money will of course go into our funds for future work we will be doing in the cemeteries. Thank you so much.

8036 days. 1148 weeks. I miss you, Norman Richard Stewart (30.07.1963 - 14.08.2002). I have never really found joy without a tinge of sadness since you left. The price of love, they say.

It's been a bad morning, but I have decided that if my mind insists on reminiscing, I shall do what has kept me sane for all these years: family history research. So, in between some urgent work that has to be done, I shall be visiting with the dearly departed and their documents for the rest of today.

I was also thinking this morning that many other people were traumatised that day, and I would love to collect all their stories sometime, so I can be more mindful of their hurt and feelings.

Oh, and in case anyone on my friends list is facing depression and considering su***de, please don't - the effects are so much more than you can ever imagine. Rather let us help you find peace another way.

An Afrikaner of Dutch and German ancestry, Arnold Vosloo was born into a Pretoria acting family, his parents having been stage actors.

Vosloo liked the script ofr 1992's "The Mummy script but told director Stephen Sommers (who, instead of making another straightforward horror film, wanted to turn it into a romantic action-adventure epic with a few horror elements), he wanted to play the role "absolutely straight. From Imhotep's point of view, this is a skewed version of 'Romeo and Juliet.'" He was offered the role after a single audition, and to help Vosloo prepare for the role of Imhotep, Sommers told him to watch Yul Brynner in "The Ten Commandments" (1956).

Carrying some extra weight and conscious of it because of Imhotep's skimpy costume, Vosloo lost 10 to 15 pounds for the role by eschewing alcohol and sugar.

"I'm no Mr. Fitness, but I had done some exercise. When I finally got to London, they showed me my costume, and it was like the size of a postage stamp."

The scene in the beginning where Imhotep is mummified freaked out Vosloo. He had to be in bandages for four hours to film the scenes where he's wrapped and put in his tomb. (Wikipedia/IMDb)

Happy Birthday, Arnold Vosloo!
