KOLONOSKOPIE
'n Kolonoskopie is 'n prosedure waar die binnekant van die dikderm (kolon en rektum) ondersoek word deur die gebruik van 'n kamera.

Dit word algemeen gebruik om 'n diagnose van gastroïntestinale simptome te maak. Die simptome sluit in pyn in die onderlyf, rektale of intestinale bloeding of die verandering in stoelgang.

Die kolonoskopie kan dien as beide diagnose en behandeling. Poliepe kan verwyder word en sekere kolorektale probleme kan behandel word. 'n Biopsie (die verwydering van weefsel vir toetsing) kan ook gedoen word.

Die prosedure neem gewoonlik minder as 'n uur en die pasiënt gaan dieselfde dag huis toe.

'n Kolonoskopie word aanbeveel vir alle persone ouer as 50 jaar. Vir diegene met 'n familiegeskiedenis van kolonkanker of poliepe is dit 'n noodsaaklikheid.

Die instrument wat vir 'n kolonoskopie gebruik word, is lank en buigsaam. Dit word in die rektum geplaas en na die begin van die dikderm beweeg.
