Movie stars in Hollywood started rocking tinted lenses, and suddenly everyone wanted a pair. Wearing shades wasn’t just practical, it was glamorous.

The 1920s: The Roaring Rise of Round Frames

(a.k.a. when glasses got jazzy)

The 1920s were all about sharp suits, swing music, and shiny round frames that said, “I’m smart and stylish.” 💫

🕵️‍♀️ Round wire frames became the ultimate look. Thin metal rims, minimalist design, and pure sophistication. Think early movie stars, inventors, and poets scribbling away in smoky cafés.

🕶️ Sunglasses entered the scene.
Originally made for pilots and outdoor adventurers, shades soon became the decade’s coolest accessory. Suddenly, everyone wanted to look mysterious behind a pair of tinted lenses.

The 1800s: The Age of the Monocle and the Pince-Nez

(a.k.a. when eyewear went full drama queen)

The 1800s were all about style, status, and serious squinting. Glasses weren’t just for seeing — they were for showing off. 💅

🕵️‍♂️ The Monocle made its debut. One single lens held in place by a well-trained eyebrow and a dash of confidence. The ultimate accessory for gentlemen and villains alike.

👃 The Pince-Nez (“pinch-nay,” meaning “pinch nose”) skipped the side arms and clamped right onto your nose. Elegant? Yes. Comfortable? Absolutely not.

🎩 Fashion Meets Function: By the late 1800s, frames were slimmer, rounder, and made from fine materials like gold and steel. People were starting to see glasses as part of their look, not just a necessity.

The 1800s gave us the first true “statement eyewear,” proof that seeing clearly could also mean looking fabulous. ✨
