THE ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN PELVIC HEALTH
Did you know that physiotherapists can treat certain dysfunctions of the pelvis? It is not always common knowledge that physiotherapists work with the pelvis at all, but we do.
The most common conditions we treat are:
🌸 Bladder dysfunction (incontinence & prolapse)
🌸 Bowel dysfunction (constipation & prolapse)
🌸 Sexual dysfunction
🌸 Ante / Post-natal symptoms
🌸 Painful pelvic conditions / chronic pelvic pain
Many men and women suffer from dysfunctions of the above, but don't always know where to go for help (or that help is even available). Physiotherapists who have a special interest in pelvic health are equipped to take care of you.
As a physiotherapy practice, we are passionate about teaching people to breathe appropriately for the activities they regularly engage in and enjoy doing. We have seen the difference this skill makes in the lives of those living with chronic illnesses, as well as those who want to improve their performance in sports.
So, how do we teach children to breathe well, in a fun and engaging manner?
Our website has (finally) been updated and refreshed!
On our new site, you'll find the following:
▪️Team member introductions, as well as special interest fields
▪️Our different services, which include "Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation" and "Musculoskeletal and other Rehabilitation"
▪️Blog posts on all things breathing, cardiac rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, woman's health oncology etc.
▪️Our different locations (we have 3 branches)
▪️Easy access to booking a session with us
Remember, when things get tough, there's always time for ice cream. We're convinced it can fix almost anything!
Have a great 2025 ✨️

NHH 🤝🏻 SATS
Another year, another fantastic South African Thoracic Society (SATS) congress 🧠
Delighted to have had our entire cardiorespiratory clinical team attend the event. Learning and growing together is such a privilege and the only way to improve the quality of our special interest field on a local level.
We had a dynamic physiotherapy track, with pulmonary rehabilitation in different chronic respiratory conditions as the main focus. An engaging round table discussion allowed us to identify relevant barriers and facilitators to program uptake, as well as the importance of core data set collection, to ensure program quality and uniformity.
Tons of ideas in the pipeline and a passion for the field of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy stronger than ever ❤️🔥

Thanks so much for having us, Bella's Guardian Angels - animal rescue ❤️
We so enjoyed welcoming these companies and businesses to Bella's. We had the best time and our puppies had a ball playing and cuddling!
The team from NHH Physiotherapists Inc. had the best time and spend their 67 minutes playing with our adorable puppies. They also donated the most beautiful thick blankets, washing powder and black bags and food and toys for the puppies (which they of course loved!)
Thank you so much for your support 🥰

ONCOLOGY REHABILITATION
Less than 25% of patients living with cancer are active or partake in regular physical activity.
There are a number of reasons for activity avoidance, here are a few:
🌸 Safety concerns and unsure of where/how to start
🌸 Treatment related fatigue
🌸 Fear of injury or causing further harm
🌸 Lack of education on the benefit of exercise
🌸 Lack of support and guidance
🌸 Partaking in activities that are not enjoyable
It is so important that this cohort are empowered with the knowledge of what to expect and how exercise can benefit their clinical trajectory significantly. Our exercise programs are patient tailored and regularly adapted, depending on the patient's clinical picture.
We value the opportunity of being able to engage with some of our oncology patients in the acute, in-hospital setting already. Here, we initiate the conversation around exercise and address any concerns.
Following discharge from hospital, if suitable, the patient is encouraged to enroll in our outpatient oncology rehabilitation program.
We are very excited to join the team and take our patient assessments to the next level 📈
We've always liked the objectivity and accuracy that hand-held dynamometry (HHD) offers as an outcome measure and believe it greatly enhances treatment specificity and program planning.
We've used HHD for years, but the digital aspect that VALD brings to the table really is world-class!
Thank you .sickel_vald, we cannot wait to get started 💥

Over the years, you may have noticed our name change a few times. Here is a quick history lession for those of you who don’t know us all to well: The company has been around for almost 15 years - starting out as Nel & Cilliers. The company then changed to Stephan Nel (whom we all know and love), then to Nel & Lee and finally to Nel, Housego, Holtzhausen Physiotherapists (NHH for short - we know it’s a mouth full). Many names, but familiar faces who appreciate your loyalty, support and enthusiasm over the years!
The members of our team each have a unique skill set, which you can read more about on our website (www.nhhphysios.co.za). We use these skills to help one another where needed, and have a collaborative special interest in the following fields:
