🌿 EDUCATION WEDNESDAY 🌿
Is Dagga Really Harmless? Think Again.

Dagga (cannabis) is often seen as “natural” and harmless — but misuse can have serious consequences, especially for young people and vulnerable individuals.

🚨 The Reality of Misuse:

Regular use can affect memory, concentration, and decision-making
It may trigger or worsen mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and psychosis
Dependency is real — you can become addicted
It can impact school performance, work productivity, and relationships

🧠 What many don’t know:
The brain is still developing until around age 25. Early and frequent use of dagga can interfere with this development, leading to long-term effects.

⚠️ Signs of Misuse:

Loss of motivation
Withdrawal from family and friends
Decline in school/work performance
Using dagga to cope with stress or emotions

💬 Let’s Talk About It:
Dagga may be legal for private use in South Africa, but that does NOT mean it is risk-free. Misuse can lead to harmful consequences for individuals, families, and communities.

🤝 Choose Awareness. Choose Health.
If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. There is help, and recovery is possible.

Monday Motivation l SUDI

Today, on World Bipolar Day, we pause to acknowledge the strength of those living with bipolar disorder, and those directly or indirectly affected by Substance Use Disorder (SUD).
Healing is not a straight line. Some days feel heavier than others, and that’s okay. What matters is that you keep going — one step, one breath, one choice at a time.

To those navigating bipolar disorder: your highs and lows do not define your worth. You are more than your diagnosis.
To those facing SUD or supporting someone who is: recovery is possible, even when it feels distant. Your story is still being written, and every effort you make counts.

Let this Monday be a reminder that seeking help is strength, not weakness. There is courage in showing up, even on the hardest days.
✨ Choose hope.
✨ Choose patience with yourself.
✨ Choose to keep going.
You are not alone — and you are never beyond healing.

✨ Monday Motivation ✨
This Monday, remind yourself: you made it this far — and that matters.

Recovery isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up, even on the hard days. Some days will feel heavy, and that’s okay. What matters is that you keep choosing to try again.

You are not your past. You are not your struggles. You are someone fighting for a better life — and that takes real strength.
Take today one moment at a time. Breathe. Reach out if you need support. Celebrate even the smallest victories.

You are worthy of healing. You are capable of change. And you are never alone.

Recovery is not a straight path, and seeking help is not a weakness but an act of courage. Today, we reaffirm that healthcare, support, and respect are not privileges—they are fundamental human rights.

To those walking this journey: you are not alone. Your life matters. Your story matters. And there is always hope.

World Kidney Day Message from SUDI

Today, on World Kidney Day, SUDI calls on communities to raise awareness about kidney health and the often-overlooked impact of substance use disorders (SUD) on kidney function.

Our kidneys work tirelessly to filter waste, balance fluids, and keep our bodies healthy. However, substance use can place significant stress on these vital organs. Drugs and alcohol may lead to dehydration, high blood pressure, infections, and direct kidney toxicity—factors that can contribute to acute kidney injury or long-term kidney disease.

At SUDI, we believe that protecting kidney health is also about addressing substance use with compassion, education, and access to treatment. Prevention, early intervention, and supportive care can help reduce harm and protect lives.

This World Kidney Day, we encourage everyone to:
• Stay informed about kidney health
• Seek help early for substance use concerns
• Support individuals on the path to recovery
• Prioritize hydration, healthy lifestyles, and regular health checks

Kidney health matters. Recovery matters. Together, we can reduce harm and build healthier communities.
