Juana Maria Frail Aged Home

Juana Maria Frail Aged Home Juana Maria Frail Aged Home is a NPO (OLD AGE HOME), where we care for up to 50 residents, in a loving, relaxed environment, at reasonable prices.

In addition our Residential Cottages also form part of this community situated in Ladysmith KZN. Juana Maria Frail Aged Home is a non profit organization, registered to accommodate 50 residents. The committee and staff over the past 34 years have rendered a high level of service to many senior citizens in a loving, caring environment with very reasonable priced tariffs. Our residents are encouraged to furnish their own rooms to add to the homely atmosphere. Our home is situated in a quiet suburb with a private hospital, the provincial hospital, doctors, specialists, pharmacies and shopping centers within a 5km radius. Ladysmith has a host of B & B's close by for visiting families which makes Juana Maria a good choice of Home for those families who live outside of Ladysmith, and would appreciate more reasonable tariffs.

Shirley Lane Community Braai 🍖

On Saturday, Shirley Lane residents Hans and Tinkie Burger brought their neighbours together for a relaxed and enjoyable community braai.

With laughter, nibbles, and easy conversation, it was a wonderful reminder of the simple joy of spending time together. Thank you to Ken Saunders for capturing these special moments so beautifully.

It’s always heartwarming to see the strong sense of community at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home—where residents come together, not for an occasion, but simply for the pleasure of each other’s company.

A Gentle Reminder: Let’s Keep the Wool Coming 🧶

A little while ago, we shared the beautiful story of Maureen Cito from Ons Winkel, who so kindly took it upon herself to start a wool collection for our Friday morning knitting and crochet group.

We would just like to remind our wonderful community about this heartfelt initiative 💛

Our residents and friends pour so much love into every stitch — creating beanies, scarves, gloves and socks, many of which are shared with those in need, especially during the colder months. With winter settling in, every ball of wool truly makes a difference.

If you have any wool tucked away in a cupboard, or if you would like to donate a few new balls, we would be so grateful for your support.

Together, we can keep hands busy, hearts warm, and kindness growing.

Thank you again to Maureen for leading this initiative with such care — and to everyone who continues to support our home in so many ways. 💕

Then & Now: A New Storytelling Series Begins

We are excited to join forces with our Shirley Lane resident, Ken Saunders, to bring you a brand new Facebook series.

Many of you will remember Ken’s involvement in our “Guess Who the Couple Is” series earlier this year. This time, however, there’s no guessing involved. Instead, we are proud to introduce Then & Now — a heartfelt look at the lives of our residents through the years.

In this ongoing series, we will share childhood photographs alongside more recent images, offering a glimpse into the journeys, memories, and stories that make each person so special. Thanks to Ken’s time and dedication in sourcing and carefully editing these photos, you’ll notice that even the older images have been beautifully brought to life in colour.

This series will continue beyond just a month, and we would love to extend the invitation not only to our residents, but also to staff members, volunteers, and close friends of Juana Maria who would like to take part.

We are delighted to begin this series with Charles Roberts, a resident of Thys Jacobsz. Once a handsome young redhead, Charles remains the same kind and gentle soul today — and we are truly privileged to have him as part of our Juana Maria story.

A Beautiful Easter Blessing 🌸

On Resurrection Sunday, we were touched by a thoughtful gesture from the NG Kerk, who delivered a stunning arrangement of flowers for our residents to enjoy.

These beautiful blooms now brighten our lounge area, warmly greeting the residents and visitors of Juana Maria Frail Aged Home.

We extend our sincere thanks to the NG Kerk for always keeping us in mind and for sharing such a lovely and meaningful gift. It truly added to the spirit of the day and brought great joy to our home.

JUANA MARIA BOOKSHOP
📚 📖 📚 📖 📚 📖 📚

Only true readers really understand these habits, and we've all got them, to a greater or lesser degree.

# It's midnight. Only one more chapter. Sleep can wait.

# Sniff the pages. The crisp scent of the printed word. Profound.

# The to-be-read pile is dwindling. Panic. Buy more books.

# Keep reading material on hand.
In case of queues. Or traffic jams.

Non-readers may find these practices a bit weird. But in our special reading community, we simply get it. This is the magic of living in Book World 📚 📖 📚

A Heartwarming Easter Visit from Ladysmith Presbyterian Church

Easter is always a special time at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home, filled with warmth, reflection, and moments of joy.

This year was made even more meaningful with a heartfelt visit from the Ladysmith Presbyterian Church, who joined us on Sunday to hand out Easter eggs to our residents. The surprise brought many smiles and added a touch of sweetness to the day.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Ladysmith Presbyterian Church for thinking of us. Your kindness and generosity made the day truly memorable, and our residents thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful gesture.

Thank you for sharing the spirit of Easter with us.
