We are always mesmerised by the beauty of nature and the way it quietly surrounds us every day 🌿

One of our residents, Dirkje Keijser, recently shared these beautiful photos of the Erythrina humeana, also known as the Wild Coral Tree, growing near her cottage. What a spectacular sight to behold!

This indigenous tree is especially striking when it bursts into vibrant red, coral-shaped flowers. These blossoms are not only beautiful but also play an important role in nature, attracting birds such as sunbirds and weavers. The Erythrina humeana is known for its resilience and ability to thrive in challenging conditions, making it a true symbol of strength and endurance.

New Year’s Eve at Shirley Lane ✨

It's all because of your support

As we look back on the past year at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the incredible support we have received from our community 🤍

Throughout the year, so many people came together to help us raise much-needed funds and, just as importantly, to show our residents that they are valued and cared for.

From the Burger Drive-Through in May, to the Golf Day in July, the Full Moon Walk in October, the Mingle & Marvel Market in November, and ending the year on a beautiful note with our Christmas Carols by Candlelight, each event was made special by the people who supported it.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, organised, baked, walked, played golf, sang, and supported us in any way. Your generosity and community spirit make a real difference in the lives of our residents and help us continue providing loving care every day.

We are truly blessed to be supported by such a caring and committed community. From all of us at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home — thank you for walking this journey with us 🌟

Looking Back | School Visits in 2025 ✨📸

As we flip through our 2025 photo album, we are reminded of some truly special moments — the joyful visits from schools across Ladysmith.

These photos capture more than just smiles. They show meaningful connections between generations: gentle conversations, shared laughter, bright young faces and the unmistakable joy on our residents’ faces when children come to visit.

The presence of learners in our home always brings a special kind of energy. For our residents, it stirs cherished memories of their own school days, while for the children, it’s a beautiful lesson in compassion, respect and togetherness.

To all the schools who visited Juana Maria Frail Aged Home during 2025, thank you for creating moments that will always be remembered. These visits are, without doubt, some of the highlights of our year.

As learners across Ladysmith begin to prepare for a new school year stepping into their new grades, we wish every child a happy, successful and prosperous year ahead.

The first day of 2026 began in the best possible way at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home — together 💛

This morning, our manager, Sanet McChlery, joined our wonderful kitchen team to help prepare the first breakfast of the new year. After the hard work was done, she shared breakfast with some of our residents, starting the year with conversation, connection, and care.

Breakfast was a comforting and nourishing spread, with warm cooked options, porridge, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, and delicious freshly baked muffins — a true reminder that at Juana Maria, every day begins with thoughtfulness and heart.

As we step into 2026, we do so with gratitude for our dedicated staff, the teamwork that keeps our home running, and the shared moments that turn ordinary days into meaningful ones.

As we come to the end of another year, we pause to reflect with grateful hearts on all that 2025 has brought to Juana Maria Frail Aged Home.

Every day at Juana Maria is shaped by care, compassion, and commitment. To our staff, volunteers, committee members, and everyone who gives of their time, energy, and skills — thank you. Your dedication ensures that our residents are cared for with dignity, kindness, and respect, and that each day holds moments of comfort, connection, and joy.

This year has been filled with small victories, shared laughter, meaningful activities, and the quiet moments that make a house a home. None of this happens by chance — it happens because of people who truly care.

As the year draws to a close, we say thank you for walking this journey with us and for being part of the Juana Maria family.

A Fresh and Thoughtful Donation 🥚

Yesterday, we were delighted to receive a generous donation of fresh eggs from Melanie Green. Thank you so much, Melanie, for thinking of Juana Maria Frail Aged Home and for this wonderful, valuable donation.

Our kitchen manager, Elsebe Drager, and her dedicated team will certainly put these eggs to good use, whipping up something nutritious and tasty for our residents to enjoy. Eggs are a wonderful source of protein and essential nutrients, making them a perfect addition to our residents’ meals.

We are truly grateful for the kindness and support we receive from our community — it makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we care for every day.
