What does sugar do to the body?

Increased sugar levels tend to increase resistance to insulin, a hormone which is vital for brain functioning through blood sugar control. Extreme levels of sugar in children can cause interference with neurotransmitters responsible for keeping moods stable. This often leads to depression and anxiety in children.

What we give our kids to eat can have an impact on their behavior, their sleeping patterns, their ability to concentrate, their dental health, their gut health and ultimately their immunity.

There are no essential nutrients in processed, sugar louded "foods".

Here is something to think aboutπŸ€”

Most kids don't eat 3 full meals , they mostly snack throughout the day but the majority of them are picky eaters. So if you replace half those "snacks" they eat with sugar filled, processed foods they get half the amount of essential nutrients they need to function everyday.

By introducing them to a healthy lifestyle from the start, you will help their bodies to function properly, to sleep better, to avoid going to the dentist unnecessarily, to concentrate better at school, to achieve their dreams essentially.

The human gut is more complex than previously thought and has a huge impact on whole-body health. A healthy gut contributes to a strong immune system, heart health, brain health, improved mood, healthy sleep, and effective digestion, and it may help prevent some cancers and autoimmune diseases.

Ways to keep your childs gut healthy:

- Fibre rich foods ( Vegetables, fruit, non processed whole grains)

- Hydration ( Water is a key component of digestion and ensures the proper absorption of nutrients. Water also keeps food moving through the intestines. If you don't have enough water in your body, water is reabsorbed from the colon, leading to constipation.

- No processed food (It promotes inflammation and hampers the body's ability to feel satiated and result in overeating it also contributes to constipation)

- Eat healthy bacteria (This means eating foods like yogurt or even miso. Recently, plenty of products have been popping up promoting good bacteria - like kefir and Sauerkraut)

- Excercise (When kids exercise, endorphins are released and this helps to relieve stress, which also leads to better gut health)

Another quick healthy breakfast option for kids, when you are running late or if your mornings just never allow enough time for stoved cooked oat meal or French toast.

1/2 cup of raw oats
1 cup of mixed frozen berries
1 1/4 of milk ( i use soy milk but you can use any you like)
1/4 cup of water

Blend it all together and pore in your kid's favorite sippy cup.

Easy and nutritious

Smoothies are a great healthy snack option for kiddies. Here i have prepared a berry smoothy for my little one this morning πŸŒ„

1 cup of Frozen mixed berries
1 cup of frozen kale
Juice of one orange
1 apple
400ml of water

Mix it in your blender/nutribullet and then you devide it into 2 portions for morning and afternoon snacks.

Really helps to prepare snacks in advance and this way they get their greens in without even noticing.

If you want your little one to live a happy and healthy lifestyle the answer lies with you, you have to be their rolemodel. The happier you are in your body the more confident they will be in theirs. Achieving a healthy lifestyle should include the whole family. Make it fun, attitude is everything.

Tip:

The morning routine you choose to follow sets you up for the day. It determines your mood , so it comes as no surprise that if you start your day with a healthy breakfast you will feel better, have more energy and therefore be happier. For anyone struggling with fatigue, sluggish digestion, weightgain, brain fog etc.

Being a mom i dealt with all the above and let me tell you, having all of these issues along with a newborn at the time was not easy and i am sure many of you can relate.

Now more than ever it is important to look after yourself. Feeling your best, gives you strength to power on through the day whether it be to spend more time with your little ones, getting through a hard day at work, meeting deadlines, or just to complete daily tasks.

What worked for me will not necessarily work for everyone, but it can be start.
