What is Biokinetics?

Biokinetics is a registered, primary health care profession using exercise and movement as its form of therapy. Biokineticists improve a person’s physical well-being and function through individualised assessments and specific exercise prescription for rehabilitation to meet individual needs. With biokinetics, quality of life can be improved and activities of daily living (ADL’s) can be made easier and pain-free.

Specialising in:

* Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
Ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder, elbow & neck pain.

*Sports Injuries

*Pre-and Post Op Rehabilitation
Strengthening of muscles and joints before and after surgery for recovery and functionality

*Chronic Disease Management
Arthritis, Asthma, Hypertension, Diabetes & Fibromyalgia.

*Neuromuscular Disorders
Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, Ataxia, Multiple Sclerosis & Polio.

*Cardiac Rehabilitation through exercise and lifestyle modification.

*Posture

*Fitness and Health Promotion

*Weight Loss & Management

*Conditioning
Increase muscle and core strength, flexibility, stability, balance & power.

What is the difference between Biokinetics and Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is required in the initial phase of rehabilitation that is needed just after an injury or surgery. They would assess the extent of the injury, control pain and swelling and restore normal movement and range of motion around the joint using a variety of techniques depending on the nature of the injury.

A Biokineticist builds on what was done at physio and thus aids in final phase rehabilitation. This includes restoring full movement and function by increasing muscle strength, endurance and power as well as co-ordination, balance, agility and sport specific skills in the case of athletes.

Biokinetics looks at the body as a whole to try to correct the cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms in order to prevent the condition from reoccurring.

If you are looking to restore, maintain or maximise strength, function and motion of muscles and joints or simply wish to optimize your health, contact Saajida Sujee on 063 775 5911 / (011) 854 - 4810
