~Scoliosis~
*
Scoliosis is known as an abnormal curvature of the spine sometimes associated with a rotation of the vertebrae. It develops predominantly in adolescents in the growth spurt just before puberty, and may progress with age, however adults may develop it as well. Conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy can be seen as causes, the cause of scoliosis is unknown.
*
•••There are 2 types of scoliosis•••
*
▪️Structural scoliosis:
This is characterized by a permanent curvature and rotation of the spine itself. This can be treated with surgery when it worsens.
Structural scoliosis has 4 sub-categories:
*
🔹Idiopathic: which is most prevalent, this occurs is adolescence, and evidence/ research suggests that genetics play a role in this type of scoliosis.
🔹Degenerative: this occurs in adults where degenerative is prominent in the spine itself
🔹Neuromuscular / myopathic: occur most commonly in patients suffering from cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.
🔹Congenital: presents during infancy and starts developing in utero.
*
▪️Function Scoliosis:
This is characterized by side bending of the spine as well as rotation as also disappears when bending down. Muscle spasms, localized inflammation, and leg length discrepancies are the most common causes of functional scoliosis and can occur at any point in an individuals life.
*
This can be treated with exercise!

In order to effectively treat the shoulder we need to look at the causes of rotator cuff problems. Pain in the rotator cuff develops when there is an excessive force that goes through the affected area in repetitive activities such as throwing a ball for example.

With pain developing in the shoulder, the surrounding muscles try to adapt or rather tries but fails to adapt to an aberrant movement pattern. The brain receives signals indicating that there is a possibility that something is wrong in the shoulder. The brain in turn generates pain signals to protect the movement which we experience as pain and a vicious circle of pain and compensatory movement begin. Pain however isn’t a direct or correct indicator of the amount of damage in the shoulder. The implications of this is if no pain is felt the brain assumes everything is fine but because of the underlying deficiencies pain will return when activity is restarted. This is why a rehabilitation programme should be completed even if there is no pain, especially during rest.

Neck pain💫

Chances are you've experienced neck pain at some stage in your life-everything including sleeping, driving, and moving is hindered when your neck is screaming at you.
Your cervical spine (neck) is made up of 7 vertebrae with the top two namely (C1/C2) responsible for almost 50% of your total neck rotation and the base of your skull (C1) responsible for almost 50% of your total neck flexion and extension. The lower 5 vertebrae contribute towards the remaining flexion, extension, rotation and lateral/side bending.
Two common things that contribute to a stiff and painful neck are:
☝🏻Tissue restriction (usually a tight muscle) or ✌🏻a joint restriction•••
Both are limiting the vertebrae from moving how it would like to and therefore causes pain.
Common symptoms with these issues are:
🔹 general "stiffness" most noticeable with stiffness
🔹localized "pinch"
🔹pulling or stretching sensation
🔹pain that may radiate up to the neck or down into the midback

Occasionally numbness and tingling in the area or down the shoulder/arm is noticeable.
