Breastfeeding supports growth, immunity, and bonding. For mothers living with HIV, exclusive breastfeeding is safe when treatment is followed and viral load is well-managed. This lowers the risk of transmission and gives babies a strong, healthy start.

Without treatment, mothers living with HIV face a 15–45 percent chance of transmitting the virus to their baby during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding. With early testing, immediate linkage to lifelong ART, and consistent care, this risk drops to under 1 percent. These proven interventions protect mothers, safeguard newborns, and move us closer to eliminating mother-to-child
transmission.

Let’s continue raising awareness, encouraging antenatal care, and ensuring every mother has access to the support she needs.

Antenatal care isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every mother needs support based on her health history and risk level.

For mothers living with HIV, early booking and routine check-ups lower the chance of transmission and help ensure a safer pregnancy.

HIV prevention relies on consistent, intentional steps that protect your health and the health of the people around you.

1. Regular testing
HIV testing is the first step in knowing your status early. Early diagnosis allows treatment to begin sooner, lowering viral load and reducing the risk of passing the virus to partners or babies during pregnancy.

2. Treatment adherence
Taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) exactly as prescribed keeps HIV under control. When viral load is suppressed, the risk of transmission is extremely low, and long-term health outcomes are significantly better.
Safer pregnancy planning

3. Planning a pregnancy with your healthcare provider ensures that treatment is optimised before conception. This reduces the chance of complications during pregnancy and dramatically lowers the risk of mother-to-child transmission.

4. Protecting partners
Open communication, safe practices, and treatment adherence help prevent HIV from being passed between partners. When viral load is suppressed, HIV becomes untransmittable. Together, these actions support prevention, protect families, and create healthier futures.

We hosted a graduation day for our little fighters💜, honouring their progress and the families who have walked this journey with so much strength.
This celebration was about more than a milestone, it was a reminder of why Prematurity Awareness Month matters and why early support, care, and guidance are so important for our premies.

To every parent and every child who showed us what resilience looks like, we see you and we celebrate you!
