MPH COMMEMORATES NELSON MANDELA DAY

Today, our hospital came alive with the spirit of service as multiple activities took place in honour of Nelson Mandela Day, paying tribute to the legacy of Tata Madiba.

The day began with a heartwarming gesture from our Ward 5 Dietitians Unit, where patients were served coffee and rusks to start the morning with comfort and care.

A special highlight of the day was the visit from McDonalds Mahikeng and the Executive Mayor of Mahikeng, Cllr. Tshepiso Mphehlo. Their presence embodied true community involvement, as they generously showered our Paediatric Unit with gifts and hampers, bringing smiles and joy to the young patients.

In the same spirit of giving, Acting CEO, Dr Holonga, joined hands with staff members in a hands-on effort to clean and paint parts of the hospital, reinforcing our commitment to a healthier, cleaner and more compassionate environment for all.

We are proud to have honoured Madiba’s legacy through action, unity and care — values that continue to shape our mission in healthcare.

Mahikeng Provincial Hospital is seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the family or next of kin of a male patient currently receiving care in Ward 8.

The patient identifies himself as “Congo” and has been under the hospital’s care for several weeks now. However, due to ongoing memory difficulties and disorientation, he is unable to provide reliable details regarding his personal background, place of origin or relatives.

MPH HOSTS EMOTIONAL YET SUCCESSFUL LEKGOTLA

Mahikeng Provincial Hospital successfully hosted its 2025 Lekgotla from Wednesday, 25 June to Friday, 27 June. This critical three-day strategic gathering brought together hospital leadership and managers under one roof to evaluate progress, confront challenges and map a way forward for improved service delivery and patient care.

The Lekgotla followed a rigorous two-day pre-Lekgotla session where unit managers deliberated on key priorities in preparation for the main event. This preparatory phase ensured a shared vision and sharpened the focus areas for discussion during the Lekgotla itself. At the main Lekgotla, commissions were formed, each comprising managers from nursing, supply chain, finance and human resources. These commissions worked diligently throughout the sessions, engaging in honest reflection, robust debate and solution-driven planning.

A powerful moment of reflection marked the second day of the Lekgotla, as the team learned of the passing of one of its own, Sr. Taku, a devoted and respected Paediatric & Neonatal AD who served MPH with unwavering dedication. The atmosphere turned sombre as colleagues paused to remember her legacy and honour her contribution to the hospital. Her memory added an emotional depth to the proceedings, reminding all present of the human heart behind the healthcare system.

On Friday, the sessions closed with final commissions presentations, charting clear priorities, timelines and accountability structures to ensure implementation.

we also extend heartfelt appreciation to the various stakeholders who contributed to the success of this Lekgotla with their generous acts of support helping create a warm and professional environment for engagement. Their contributions not only alleviated logistical burdens but also demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening public healthcare services in our community.

The 2025 Lekgotla not only shaped a strategic path, but also reinforced the unity and resilience of our managers committed to navigating the future together, both in grief and in hope.

MPH HOLDS SUCCESSFUL PRE-LEKGOTLA PLENARIES

On Monday and Tuesday (today), Mahikeng Provincial Hospital successfully hosted a two-day pre-Lekgotla plenary sessions at the Recreational Hall, bringing together Unit Managers and staff in preparation for the upcoming main three-day Lekgotla..

The preparatory plenaries aimed to consolidate strategic inputs, align operational goals and ensure a united front ahead of the Lekgotla scheduled to take place from tomorrow (Wednesday till Friday). The sessions provided a platform for robust discussion, mood setting, mind rejuvenation, performance reflection and finalisation of key priorities that will inform the hospital’s direction going forward.

Though engaging conversations and games, Acting CEO Ms Motlalepule Patience Maikepa commended the active participation and commitment of all managers, noting that the preparatory sessions were vital in ensuring that no critical detail was overlooked. “This pre-Lekgotla process helps us sharpen our focus and strengthen internal coordination. It’s where strategy meets action,” she said.

The hospital is now fully geared for the main Lekgotla, confident that it will be a productive engagement rooted in shared vision and strategic clarity.
