Weight management(Overweight and Obesity)

How is it classified - Dietitians conduct a set of Assessments, the ABCD&E in oder to individualise treatment and give healthy dietary guidelines that are relevant to promote good health while losing the undesired fat.

Indicators such as Body Mass Index (BMI), skinfolds, waist girth, MUAC are used
A BMI of : < 18.5 underweight
18.5 - 24.9 Normal body weight
25.9 - 29.9 Overweight
30 - 34.9 mild obesity
35 - 40 moderate obesity
>40 morbid obesity
Overweight and Obesity is associated with alot of health risks which affects the quality of life. Chronic disease such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart diseases. These are the most common diseases that the society is suffering from. It's our responsibility to take good care of our health and avoid pills.

The South African Food Based Dietary Guideline 4&6
4 - Make starchy foods the basis of most meals
6 - Eat dry beans, split peas, lentils and soy regularly

Both covered in Umngqusho. Nutritionally rich in Carbohydrates, Fibre and Protein among other things.
Which are good because:
⏭️Carbohydrates are the main source of energy
⏭️Fibre increase satiety, & that's good for weight management. Also supports healthy bowel functioning avoiding constipation
⏭️Protein without the bad fat like in meat, good for muscle build up etc.

Intresting fact about it though, it's that it's one of healthiest food, packed with essential minerals and vitamins, containing nutrients such as:
Vitamin B6 - essential for energy metabolism
Fiber - improving digestive health
Antioxidants - protecting against cell damage
Vitamin C - tissue repair, healthly skin and iron absorption preventing iron deficiency anaemias

⏩Rich in collagen of which some people purchase as dietary supplement for better skin health which is pricey, no need for that

Obesity is the accumulation of excessive fat, classified by a body mass index(BMI)
It increases alot of health risks coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension dyslipidemias and many more.

As much as Obesity is a serious threat to the quality of our health it surely can be resolved. Fist thing first it's not about the reading on the scale but the health benefit that comes with working hard in exercise and getting rid of fat. Don't be fooled by fad diets on the net, rather get professional advice from a health care provider who will do a proper assessment for a healthy weight loss program.

It is very sad that alot people opt for quick results and neglect their health in the process. Only seek professional advice when they are on a hospital bed.

Prevention is always better than cure that's why it's always best to make healthy eating and exercise a lifestyle than an obligation
