Help Jane Walk Again: Emergency Fund for Urgent Surgery
Our beloved friend, Jane Quick, needs us more than ever.
Jane, 81 years old and fiercely independent, suffered a traumatic fall while closing her small shop last Monday evening. She shattered her patella (kneecap) and spent the entire freezing night—over eight long hours—lying alone on the cold ground with her loyal dog Ollie by her side. Her phone was just out of reach. She was finally discovered the next morning.
Jane has no medical aid, lives alone and is currently caught in the painfully slow process of receiving care through government hospitals. Her surgery has been postponed multiple times, and she’s now facing at least another week of waiting—while in constant pain and with no guarantee of immediate treatment.
Jane is alone in South Africa with no family to assist her. As her friends, we’ve been doing everything we can—transporting her to the hospital, cleaning her home, preparing meals, caring for her, and making sure sweet Ollie is fed and comforted. But Jane needs round-the-clock care. She cannot go to the toilet unaided and requires two people just to help her into her donated wheelchair. A catheter was inserted as a temporary solution, but this is far from ideal for someone her age.
We’re reaching out to you to help us raise funds for urgent private medical care. With your kindness, we can get Jane into MediClinic where she can have the surgery she so desperately needs—and begin healing in dignity, surrounded by compassionate care.
Every contribution—no matter the size—brings Jane one step closer to relief, recovery, and regaining her independence.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With love and hope,
Jane’s Friends & Ollie
