Today is world Parkinson's Day.
In my 30 years as a Physiotherapist, I have often picked up some of the early, subtle signs of this illness whilst treating a patient for something else. Therafter referring them to their GP or specialist for a formal diagnosis and medical management.
Sadly many do not come back for physio and there is so much we can offer.
Parkinson's is ultimately a disease affecting movement and as Physiotherapists we are expertly trained to assess and advise patients on how to overcome these challenges and make a meaningful difference to a patient's quality of life.
On Tuesday I have the privilege of giving a talk on Parkinsons about this issue and sharing in a movement class with Beverly Aquisto at Margate Retirement Village in celebration of World Parkinsons Day.
This is the second year we are hosting this and Beverly runs a weekly class of exercises specifically targeting the symptoms of Parkinsons.
As a Ballet Teacher she is also a member of Dance for Parkinsons South Africa.
If you want any further info on the event or treatment options please don't hesitate to send me a Whatsapp 083 965 4344.
Our theme this year is "Rise and Shine" emphasising the inportance of moving every day.
