My name is Aronnel Niemand, I'm 27 years young and conquering a terminal lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF), as well as type 1 diabetes, on a daily basis. There is no cure for CF.
CF is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. CF affects the cells that produce mucus causing it to become thick and sticky build up that clogs the airways.
Life expectancy for people In South Africa living with CF is between 40-50 years old. Not all CF patients are so lucky.
There is a "miracle drug" called Trikafta/Trixicar that can change these stats and prolong and better the quality of my life. Trixicar can assist by helping to break this sticky mucus down, making it easier to cough it up. It can increase my deteriorating lung function between 10 and 15 percent, which makes breathing much easier. Unfortunately this "miracle drug" is not available in SA. It can however be sourced from overseas but this is a very costly and tedious process. The treatment I need costs between R350 000 to R450 000 for a course of 6 months (including travel costs and funds needed for permission to source.)
South African medical aids do not cover this. Myself and my family alone cannot afford this.
This is the reason why myself, my family and my medical team suggested I reach out to all of you to help fund to improve the quality of my life through sourcing Trixicar.
