21 March is World Down Syndrome Day 💛💙

Down Syndrome van affect both the Hearing and Speech/Language development of a child born with the condition. It is of the utmost importance to regularly monitor their hearing as the status thereof may change (conductive hearing loss) and this will have a direct impact on their ability to learn speech and language 💭

Early intervention is critical in assisting these little ones with any delays to reduce the impact on their communication skills as much as possible ❗️

Hearing loss can lead to increased anxiety. Get your hearing assessed now! 🦻🏼

A lot of people are surprised when I say this, but hearing aids can actually relax people!
Did you know that untreated hearing loss can be linked to higher levels of stress and anxiety? 😔
I recently had a patient put it in a context I could relate to. When I was showing her how to mute her hearing aids, she responded with:
“Ugh, I just hate it when the sound goes away, it gives me instant anxiety. It’s like turning the lights off when you’re reading a book.” 😥
