The Nelspruit Hospice is a non-profit organisation which provides quality home-based palliative care to people with life-threatening illnesses. We have Professional Nurses, who are palliative care-trained and who provide physical, psycho-social and spiritual support regardless of race, disease, religion or socio-economic situation. Palliative Care as defined by the World Health Organisation is: An approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illnesses, through the prevention and relief of suffering, the early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psycho-social and spiritual. On World Mental Health Day, we pause to honour the emotional resilience of those who walk alongside others in their most vulnerable moments, our palliative care workers.

These caregivers donโ€™t just ease physical pain. They hold space for grief, offer comfort in silence, and carry the weight of countless goodbyes with grace. Their mental health matters deeply, and their stories deserve to be heard.

The Hospice Voices of Love collection reveals the heart behind the care, real people, real courage, real love. From Estcourt to Empangeni, Durban to Kimberley, each profile is a testament to the strength it takes to show up with compassion, day after day.
