Yesterday I decided to take part in the .
I did the 10km for one of my patients who has had an extremely difficult 4 months in hospital., following many set backs and the challenging times COVID-19 has brought. While running, I was continuously reminded of all of those who would give up anything to be able to run, feeling the fresh cold air filling their lungs and the burn that is associated with exercise.

Let’s not take our health for granted.

Exercise is a necessity!

The human immune system is a highly intricate network of cells and molecules designed to keep the host free from infection and disease. Exercise is known to have a profound impact on the normal functioning of the immune system.

During this difficult time of national lockdown there are a few ways of maintaining sanity.

Regular sleep patterns - try not get into a bad habit of going to bed very late at night and “sleeping in” in the mornings. This tends to throw ones whole day out and it is very easy to fall into the vicious cycle.

Daily exercise routine - exercise is an extremely important aspect of our daily lives. Guidelines advise that we should get a minimum of 30 minutes, moderate exercise daily. **

Social interaction- reach out to others daily, a chat to friends or family via various social platforms (WhatsApp call, FaceTime, Zoom etc) has an enormous ability to lift ones mood, and helps us feel more connected. We are all in this boat together.

Daily home improvement- by setting goals (keeping them small and achievable) for daily home improvement can help improve ones feeling of self accomplishment as well as improving your living environment, creating a more comfortable and relaxed setting.

** If you are struggling with what type of exercise to do, how to perform different exercises correctly, unsure you are working at the correct intensity etc. I will be more than happy to advise you by means of telehealth therapy and designing a suitable home program.

The L4-L5 spinal motion segment provides a variety of functions, including supporting the upper body and allowing trunk motion in multiple directions. Due to its load-bearing function, this motion segment may be susceptible to injury and/or degenerative changes.

Exercise does not need to be focused on lifting heavy weights or lengthy cardio sessions. Today we had an epic game of balloon tennis, each set lost came with a grueling “punishment”. Exercising with limited lung function can be difficult, but the list of benefits are countless.
