Today is World Autism Awareness day.

ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder- SPECTRUM means that every child with ASD has different skills, gifts, challenges, and needs.

Every single one.

If you have met one autistic person, you have met one autistic person. It is not specific and uniform in the way it presents and affects our children. Every case is different.

Some of my very favourite humans in the world are on the Autism Spectrum. Why do I love them? Because they view the world from a perspective inaccessible to us, and, if we listen, they can teach us SO much. They are incredibly rewarding to work with because, with the right, gentle and patient intervention, we SEE profound results in these gorgeous Little Lives.

Children with ASD can learn and succeed in the classroom and beyond, however, early intervention has proven to provide the best outcomes. That is why it is vital to create awareness so that every child can receive the help they need as early on as possible, so they have the best chance of rising above their difficulties and reach their full potential.

Like every child, with early intervention and the help of their families, providers, doctors, specialists, and communities, kids with ASD can thrive.

Early identification of ASD helps children get the services they need. There is no “cure” for ASD, but there are several interventions that can help children learn important skills that improve everyday life, and the way the interact with the world. Typically, the earlier children are diagnosed and receive services, the better their outcomes are.
