Life lately:

1, 2 & 3: Surprise date night at The Red Chamber. Definite bonus points for ending it with a “Quick Look”👀 at Exclusive Books and coffee and ice cream at The Moody Cow.
4: We 100% don’t deserve the love animals bless us with.
5: Possibly the most important set thus far 💅
6: Clay Crew
7: Terrible Trio minus one behind the camera
8: Hot s**t dropping soon 🔥
9: Poised Pencil Poses.
10: Yoga Yogi Year End. Cannot comprehend how bloody lucky I am for these stunning women. Resident photographer .andrews1 for the win second year running.
11: Sourdough = unexpectedly successful. Much wow.
12: Is this flower serious?? 🤩
13: Skin the cat practice - no trending audio.
14: trip. Their gardens are ridiculously inspirational.
15: Luuuuuurv. Luuuuuurv. Luuuuuurv. My favourite is when we get mistaken for being on a first or second date at restaurants, and surprise puppy-eyed waiters with our 7.5 year love story. ❤️

Behind all of these pictures are friends, family, experiences (good and bad) that I could never articulate in words. But I’m so grateful for every single one. I wish I could tell myself years ago that life would get this good.

Something told me that Wednesday’s class needed to be a rest and reset. So, after sending a poll out to the group, it was decided: Yin over Vinyasa.

Yin yoga is an intentional practise in which poses are held for 5 minutes. The intention is to build mental strength and persistence.

Yin classes force us to face ourselves and our thoughts, and teach us to learn to breathe through the discomfort and (possibly) go deeper - both in the stretch and in focus.

Most, if not all, poses are supported by yoga blocks, bolsters, pillows or straps as the body needs to be made as “comfortable” as possible to be able to maintain the pose for 3-5 minutes.

I set the scene with blue studio lights, incense, soft wordless music and blocks at each “station”.

Students entered the studio in their most comfortable get up, armed with pillows, beanies and blankets and were invited to draw a card from a deck that offers advice on self-love. These cards offered us an opportunity to create an affirmation or an “I am” statement inspired by the content of each card. We then used these statements as a tool to bring back presence during the poses, should the mind get too critical or loud.

For this class I kept a timer of 3 minutes for each pose, rang a soft bell when the time was over, made sure to support any dangling limbs and kept a constant stream of gentle chatter during the 3 minutes. The longer the class progressed, the less I talked. I thought it was important to allow students to engage with their own inner worlds gradually…

Yin classes are so important to counter vinyasa or “power classes”, as they remind us that to be able to be energetic, we must rest and restore. We must take stock of where we are, what resources are available to us and where we might like to move next. 🧘

This isn’t the only way to do DFD in aerial though. Disclaimer: please don’t lift your fingertips in Downward Facing Dog, it seems to be a bad habit I’ve managed to pick up 🙈😂 Hope this helps! 🌹

Full house last night with some newbies showing off their first ✨fancy✨ aerial moves. 🤸‍♀️

This week’s class was inspired by the air element. 🌬️ Students were invited to wear white or yellow and since most sequences were in the air, they found themselves looking like wind chimes and feeling like they were flying🪽🪽🪽

While some yogis celebrate this day by doing 108 sun salutations, there are easier ways to celebrate this day 😅

1. Get on your yoga mat and just sit and listen to the sounds around you. Ground yourself and take a moment of presence.

2. Write a list of gratitude.

3. Think about all of the reasons you do yoga, but going beyond the physical. Do you do it for mindfulness? For a break in your week? How has your yoga practice served you?

4. Clear your space and discard junk. Yoga teaches us to remove the mental clutter and get down to the core reason we practice. Try this yoga practice for the space you inhabit: Go through a chosen space and discard the things that you don’t love or use.

5. Have a tech-free hour and take in the details around you. Try and be present with the people in your space and given them your full undivided attention.

6. Practise unconditional love. Witness and embrace your imperfections. Let yourself be flawed, and know that it doesn’t make you any less magnificent. Let someone else be right. Let them be annoying. Remember that we’re all trying our best and it’s ok to be broken. See the people around you not as separate and apart but as a mirror of your perfectly imperfect self.

7. Set an intention for your day/week/month. International yoga day falls on the Winter Solstice, the longest night and shortest day. Use this as a “reset” and choose a word or affirmation you’d like to practise. We do this in class all the time - I am happy, I am grateful, etc.

Most of all though, international yoga day, for yoga teachers, is about gratitude and service. For that reason, I’d like to say thank you. Thank you for witnessing my journey as an instructor and for those that attend my classes. I am grateful for each and every one of you.❤️

Have a beautiful yoga day 🙏🙏🙏
