WHAT IS A SUBCONJUNCTIVAL HEMORRHAGE?

A subconjunctival hemorrhage is a red spot on your eye that happens if tiny blood vessels between the white of your eye and the sclera (the film that covers it) break. You won't have any symptoms like vision changes, discharge, or pain. The only discomfort you may have is a scratchy feeling on the surface of your eye.

WHAT CAUSES A RED SPOT ON AN EYE?
Most happen when your blood pressure spikes due to:
Strong sneezing
Straining
Powerful coughing
Vomiting

SOME RED SPOTS RESULT FROM AN INJURY OR ILLNESS, LIKE:
Roughly rubbing your eye
Trauma, like something, gets stuck in your eye
Contact lenses
Viral infection

SURGERY LESS COMMON CAUSES INCLUDE:
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Medicines that make you bleed easily (such as aspirin or blood thinners like coumadin)
Blood clotting disorders

DOES A RED SPOT ON AN EYE NEED TREATMENT?
Most red spots heal on their own without treatment. Depending on how big it is, it may take a few days or a few weeks to go away. If it begins to feel irritating, it’s OK to use artificial tears.

DRIVING WITH YOUR GLASSES WILL SAVE YOU FROM GETTING A TICKET FROM THE TRAFFIC COPS

Typically, if you require a vision correction when driving, it will be noted on your driver’s license. If a police officer pulls you over and you’re driving without your glasses or contact lenses, the officer can penalize you.

The level of punishment varies depending on where you live. In some places, driving with uncorrected or impaired vision is considered dangerous or careless driving. Suppose you are involved in an accident and cause property damage or the injury or death of another person while driving with impaired vision. In that case, you could face fines, prison time and the invalidation of your insurance (leaving you to pay for all damages out of your pocket).

Driving without your glasses isn’t worth the risk of getting fined or spending time in jail. Try keeping your glasses in the same spot as your car keys, or keep a spare pair in the car!
