“Listening changes lives. Asking the right question changes everything.” One of the not-so-easy skills to learn in Kinesiology is how to ask the right questions!

Sounds simple, right? Until you’re in class. This is the classic Level 1 moment:
A student looks up at their learning partner, eyes wide, brain empty, and says:
“Uh… so… what do I say now?” Yep it happens, often!

These are common too -
• Listening… but only so you can respond (not listening at all)
• Interrupting halfway through because you’ve already figured it out
• Offering helpful advice no one asked for
• And the BIG no-no, telling someone what to do like a boss!

Oh my word! So how does one learn to ask the right question in Kinesiology?
A question that gathers information, deepens understanding, offers insight, without imposing, directing, fixing, or accidentally turning into a life coach with opinions?

Now for the serious bit (this is where the magic actually happens)

Asking the right questions is one of the core skills of Kinesiology. It’s how we gain insight, how we understand what’s really going on, and how we support change, without bias, judgement, or agenda.

This skill is taught in class but it becomes intuitive only with practice, patience, presence and paying attention. It’s why being truly present in class matters. In class, you learn not only from those who ask questions beautifully but also from those who don’t. Learning what not to ask, and how not to ask it, is just as valuable.

I’ve even had students say: “Wait, say that again. I want to write down every question you just asked so I can learn how to do that?”
Why how you ask matters

In Kinesiology, we move away from limiting “Why?” questions, which often keep people stuck justifying the problem and instead focus on “What” and “How” questions.

What and how questions remove bias, encourage exploration, allow the conscious and subconscious mind to organise information and open the door to solutions

So instead of “Why do you do this?”, We ask: “What do you want?” “What’s important to you about this?” “How will you know when you’ve got it?” “What’s getting in the way?” “What resources do you already have?” “What could you do differently next time?”

And finally, “What’s the first baby step you can take to achieve the result you want?”
The last question alone turns insight into action.

And here’s the thing, these aren’t just Kinesiology skills, they are life skills. They make better practitioners, yes, but they also make better listeners, partners, parents, leaders, and humans.

That’s why learning Kinesiology is life-changing at any age. Most of our students are adult women. Men make excellent Kinesiopractors® too. And for gap-year students, Kinesiology builds confidence, emotional intelligence, a powerful skill set and personal growth that shapes their future.

Our branch of Kinesiology was developed by Dr Dewe, a medical doctor, alongside his wife Joan, grounding our work in a strong scientific foundation while honouring the wisdom of the body.

And read the interview of Aran below. Aran first attended class when she was just 16 as part of a school project. She is now works as a Kinesiopractor® full time. If you live in Johannesburg you can book an appointment with her. And this is why we also recommend learning Kinesiology during a gap year!

Interview with a Kinesiopractor® Aran Metcalf-Dunn, a graduate of this college, featured in the PKPASA Newsletter, See her bio here - https://kinesiologysouthafrica.co.za/directory/aran-metcalf-dunn/

1. What initially drew you to Specialised Kinesiology, and how has your approach evolved over time?
I initially got into Kinesiology through a school project that I did in grade 11. I really enjoyed the theory and the community. I had a great time in class, and learning with the group was always something that I looked forward to.
I remember the first time I had a balance and the things that were revealed by it; it was like magic. I was in awe that the practitioner was able to get such a precise picture of who I was and what I needed in such a short time. Kinesiology is something that has truly allowed me to grow, and I often wonder what I would be like if I had never explored it. I feel like kinesiology has seeped its way into all avenues of my life, from my relationships with friends and family, through to university. During my studies at the college, I have also taken other courses, and I truly feel that I would not have performed as well as I have without this magic weapon. Being able to recognise destructive patterns and having the tools and support from friends that I have made along the way have been instrumental in my growth.
When I first started studying Kinesiology, I thought that I would be strictly working with the body, like a physiotherapist, and while yes, we do work with the body, I soon realised that the body is the means through which we discover what is happening in the mind and at the subconscious level. Muscle work is incredibly important, and I love working with clients where this is what initially brought them to me, but what I love more and what fascinates me more is understanding the reasons behind the physical issues. Getting to know people and providing them the opportunity to unpack the often-ignored emotions and stories is what lights me up.

2. How do you determine which correction technique or protocol is best for a client during a session?
We are taught the finger modes, and they are like the cheat code to insight; they have never let me down, and I have learnt to trust them. In the beginning you may get a mode and think “how could that possibly apply here?” but the important thing is to roll with it, because once you explain a little bit about the mode to the client or you muscle test according to the mode, the answer will reveal its self and often make perfect sense for the client, they may even reveal a little be more about themselves that adds to the story that otherwise would have never come to light.

3. How do you integrate metaphysical or spiritual insights into your sessions, if at all?
I love the book: Metaphysical Anatomy by Evette Rose, and I use it as information during the session. So, once we are in the process of the balance, usually in the present time section, where you muscle test to see if the client needs information or correction. If information indicates, then I will ask “information from my information file or from the metaphysical book”. Then I search up the specific condition they are perhaps working with in the session or something that they know they have and again check an indicator muscle to see if it's applicable. I have never had information come up that wasn’t useful.

4. What roles do emotions and the subconscious play in the healing process through Kinesiology?
To make a significant difference in the healing process through kinesiology, the client needs to be willing to access a vulnerable place within themselves and be honest about their emotions. When someone is unable to face an emotion or resists letting go of a particular emotional state, growth and genuine breakthrough become difficult.
Due to this, emotions and the subconscious play a far greater role in healing than I previously understood. Before studying kinesiology, I believed that physical factors such as exercise, proper nutrition, and adequate rest were the most important aspects of healing. While these are extremely important, they are not sufficient on their own.
I have come to realise that healing requires honesty with oneself, which can be very challenging, especially for those who were raised to ignore their emotions or to keep moving forward despite them. From my personal experience, avoiding emotional honesty leads to a feeling of being stuck, and this sense of being stuck is often a sign of underlying fear. Only when the emotion is revealed can we become aware of what our fears are linked to.
Therefore, emotions play a crucial role in the healing process by allowing a person to move forward. By acknowledging and experiencing their emotions, individuals become aware of where they are stuck, and by making subconscious knowledge conscious, opens the possibility for change and healing to occur.

Being, Doing and Becoming Whole

As a Kinesiopractor®, I’m also a designated ASCHP Specialist Wellness Counsellor. To maintain that status, I’m required to complete CPD points each year. This year, one of the compulsory CPD units entitled Wellness v Biomedical stirred something much deeper. It got me thinking about how we heal and perhaps, more importantly, who we are being while we do it.

In particular, this statement from the CPD unit about the wellness framework stopped me in my tracks:

“The wellness approach is one of being therapies. This doesn’t mean there is no doing involved - because certain situations may require action. However, the primary mode of wellness care is not doing therapies. Being-ness refers to presence, active engagement, comfort, space, and peace. Doing refers to activity, planning, skills, programmes, protocols, and intervention. Both are required — but being therapies are often neglected.” (edunomix.education)

That says it all. The role of the wellness practitioner is not “I’m doing this to you.” It’s “I’m here with you.” And of course, one of the first things that our students learn is:

“Our balancing process is a journey where the PKPer™ walks beside their client as ‘that person discovers their own magic’ and progressively leaves the obstacles from their past behind them. The client is an active participant.” BKP 101

Our students are trained to facilitate, guide, encourage, and support but, always in a way that invites the client to take responsibility for their own journey. Because the true aim is not simply to heal, it’s to help someone become whole. And in wholeness, healing naturally follows.

The search for wholeness is, in many ways, the search for meaning. It asks us to look at what is right, not only at what feels broken. To see the person as a whole system — mental, emotional, physical, energetic — so that they can rediscover themselves as whole.

It also asks us not to let conditions define identity. We are not our diagnosis. We are not our learning challenges. We are not our past mistakes. As an example, many people labelled with “learning difficulties” are extraordinary thinkers, seeing connections and meaning in ways that stretch far beyond conventional understanding. Being able to finally see that as a positive can be life-changing.

Wholeness reminds us that we are beings of love and, while for many loving others is easy, some have to learn that love for ourselves is important too. A space that, for many, has been long neglected. This requires our Kinesiologists and Kinesiopractors® to hold space. So what does holding space really mean? It means being present in a way that communicates: you are safe, you are supported, you are seen. Sometimes presence matters more than action. Think of a loved one sitting quietly at your bedside, their presence alone can be deeply healing. Once that space exists, positive changes can more easily happen.

Holding space for healing isn’t about staying silent either. It’s about asking the right questions, offering insight, providing options. And allowing the client, through information and awareness, to make empowered choices for themselves. It’s about unconditional regard, even when someone’s past includes addiction, crime, extreme control, or deep fear. Healing happens when judgement is removed and safety is restored.

This is why, at the Kinesiopractic® College, students are required to work through their own issues. In this college, thinking that through Kinesiology you will become a “healing guru” simply doesn’t work. When students arrive with this perception, I gently remind them (and sometimes not so gently) that they have no idea what another person’s life has truly been like and, to think that they do is purely the ego at work. Insight cannot be imposed.

That’s why the "aha" moment is everything. When a student or client has their own realisation, something clicks at a deep level and change happens naturally. Often, that moment comes with tears. And yes, I jokingly tell students that if their class partner or client cries during a session, they earn a thousand points because it usually means the connection has been made. Because undeniably true transformation doesn’t come from being told what’s wrong. It comes from discovering truth for oneself.

This is why I still love what I do after 36 years. Watching students change after each class, becoming more embodied, more compassionate, more themselves, finding the gift of who they are, is a privilege. Seeing them take that awareness into their families, their communities, and their work is the ultimate goal. Because the more whole we become, the more we give others' permission to do the same. And isn’t that what the world needs right now?

If this way of working, of being, of holding space, of supporting real change, speaks to you, we would love to welcome you into our next intake. Classes are starting very soon in Joburg, KZN, Cape Town, George and Tesselaarsdal.

What is healing, really? And on what level does it happen?

Most people think of healing as something purely physical, fixing the body, resolving symptoms, getting back to “normal.” But healing is rarely that simple or that limited.

So let’s pause for a moment and ask a bigger question: Is healing something that happens naturally and quietly over time, or does it take a crisis to wake us up?

For many people, healing begins after a crisis. The end of a relationship, bankruptcy, a severe injury, life-changing illness. Moments when life pulls the rug out from under us, and we are forced to stop, feel, and look more deeply. I know! I have been there, more than once.

Thomas Moore refers to this as “The Dark Night of the Soul.” If you haven’t read his work, it’s a powerful exploration of the waking-up process, the way life nudges (or sometimes pushes) us back onto a more authentic path. Not to punish us, but to strip away what no longer fits. To peel away the layers of the old self so that the true self can finally emerge, like a butterfly leaving the chrysalis.

Life happens.
The so-called “wake-up call” is not there to break us, it’s there to move us from the old into the new. Real healing asks us to go down into the ashes of ourselves and search for the gold that has always been there. And that takes courage. Courage to meet the shadow parts of ourselves honestly, consciously, and without judgment.

The only way out, is through!
When we don’t face what life is asking of us, it doesn’t disappear. It lingers. In our thoughts. In our bodies. In our relationships. Whispering, nudging, waiting patiently for our attention. And when unhealed parts are ignored for too long, they often show up as pain, imbalance, or disease, not as punishment, but as a message. This is why, as Kinesiopractors®, we say that the body is the messenger - what is the message that it is trying to give to us?

Many of us discover, eventually, that the person we thought we had to be was never our true self at all. It was a mask. It was a survival strategy so that we could be loved, seen, heard, or safe.

True healing invites us to gently lay that mask down. So healing, then, becomes a conscious choice. A choice to meet ourselves honestly, without blame or shame, and to see what has always been there beneath the layers of protection, suppression, and pretence, until we can finally accept ourselves as we are: whole, worthy, and deeply loving.

This is a journey many Kinesiology students find themselves on, often without realising it at first. The work naturally invites reflection, awareness, and personal growth. Students are encouraged to work through their own stresses, limitations, and patterns, creating space for deeper understanding and change.

It’s a truly holistic process working with the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of being human. And yes, it often comes with tears - tears at the loss of the old self sometimes, but mostly tears of release, of being seen, of finally being heard. And once awareness arrives, change is never far behind. What makes this journey so powerful is the space that is held - a safe, supportive environment where growth is honoured, and each person is met with compassion.

Over the years, I’ve watched students change, grow, and step more fully into who they truly are. It’s one of the reasons that, after 36 years of teaching, I remain deeply passionate about teaching Kinesiology. Being part of that unfolding, witnessing students and clients reconnect with themselves, is where, for me, true healing begins, and I am honoured to play a small part in that process.

So, if you are ready to heal, change and grow and to become the authentic you, then it might be time to Book a session with a Kinesiopractor® or Join our next Kinesiopractic® training.

That quote has a way of stopping you for a moment, doesn’t it? I’ve been sitting with it myself, because after more than 35 years of working with Kinesiopractic®, I still find myself quietly amazed at what happens when someone shifts their perception, even just a little.

Did you know, Kinesiopractic® helps us to rewire the chemistry of our body? How do we know that? Because of the incredible changes that our clients experience! Over the years, I’ve watched clients walk out of a single session changed at a very deep leve. I have seen students and qualified Kinesiopractors® pause mid-session, eyes wide, saying, “I didn’t expect that to happen.” And honestly? I still feel that sense of awe too.

What Kinesiopractic® seems to do so beautifully is bridge the gap between what we think and what we feel. Using gentle muscle testing, we listen to the body, quietly and intelligently. The body shows us where stress has been stored over time, where emotions haven’t been processed, or where old beliefs are interrupting natural flow. And what becomes very clear, very quickly, is that the body doesn’t lie. It communicates consistently, and honestly, if we are willing to listen.

Rather than asking, “What do I need to take to feel better?” Kinesiopractic® invites a different question: “What can I understand, release, or reframe so that my body can return to balance?”

At the Specialised Kinesiopractic® College, this is the space we continue to explore together, the intersection of thought, energy, emotion, and healing. Because when we learn to shift our perceptions and our perspective, we don’t just change our minds, we change our health, our relationships, and our world.

And if you’re feeling curious, or you are longing for a whole new direction in life, then Level 1 training might be a next step for you. It’s an invitation to learn how to listen more deeply to the body’s wisdom, for yourself and for others, within a supportive, thoughtful learning community.

If you feel called to understand the body’s wisdom and master the art of energy alignment, join us for our next Kinesiopractic® Level 1 training. Send an enrollment request here. Our 2026 courses are starting very soon.

Inner Child Work and No, Its Not About Blaming Your Parents! “Heal your inner child” has been a buzz phrase for a while ...
11/01/2026

Inner Child Work and No, Its Not About Blaming Your Parents! “Heal your inner child” has been a buzz phrase for a while now. It sounds lovely, but also slightly suspicious. So what is it exactly? Is it lying on the floor, crying about your childhood? Is it blaming your parents for everything from your coffee addiction to your fear of commitment?
No. And definitely no.

So What Is Inner Child Work, Really?

Inner child work is about recognising that parts of us are still running old emotional programs, often written when we were small, vulnerable humans just doing our best.

It’s about healing old emotional wounds, meeting unmet needs from childhood, and bringing compassion to younger parts of ourselves so that we don’t keep reacting like a 6-year-old in a grown-up body.

When done well, inner child work leads to better emotional regulation, healthier adult behaviour, improved self-esteem and fewer “Why did I react like that?” moments.

So no, it’s not about blaming your parents. Most parents did the best they could with what they knew at the time.

Why It Matters More Than We Think

Unresolved childhood patterns don’t disappear. They just get better outfits and adult responsibilities.

They often show up as:
• Big reactions to small things
• Repeating relationship patterns
• Self-sabotage
• Anxiety, stress or people-pleasing

And here’s the twist. Some of the patterns we’re most praised for, like being too helpful, saying yes to everything, putting everyone else first, often come from childhood trauma too!

Inner Child Work Is About Change, Not Just Insight

This work isn’t about staying stuck in the wounded part of yourself. It’s about understanding your unconscious patterns and changing them. Awareness is a great first step, but recognising the patterns, and changing those patterns is what is needed. This results in you being less reactive, more centred, more present and frankly, a nice human to live with. And who doesnt need that!

How Kinesiopractic® Does This Differently

In Kinesiopractic®, we don’t just talk about inner child work, we work with it practically. Our EMS (Emotional & Mental Stress) modules are designed to access unconscious emotional patterns, bring them into awareness, release emotional charge, practise how you want to be and behave, and these modules help to support genuine change and choice.
This process allows for re-parenting, where the inner child is finally seen, supported and integrated in the present time. The result is more grounded practitioners, more authentic humans and better choices both personally and professionally.

Why our Students Love This Work

Our students:
• Discover lifelong patterns they didn’t even know were running
• Are supported to do the work for themselves first
• Learn skills that transform their own relationships, parenting, work and life
• Gain confidence in helping clients heal and grow

So, Is Inner Child Work real and necessary? Short answer: Yes. Absolutely. Long answer: It’s one of the most powerful ways to create real, lasting change. And when you learn to do it well, with skill, clarity and respect, it changes lives. Starting with your own!

This is what makes Kinesiopractic® such an extraordinary course. You’re not learning “techniques”, you’re learning how to listen, to bodies, to systems, to signals that don’t come from the conscious mind.

Are you ready to start a whole new career and learn how to live better and help others to do the same while earning a good income well into your old age?

ENROLL NOW. Our courses start early in 2026 in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Kzn, George and Tesselaarsdal.

Think Kinesiopractic® is all love, light and woo-woo? Think again Yes, we work with energy — but we are deeply practical.

Level 1 is about getting the foundations rock solid.

Students learn accurate muscle testing, clear protocols, the Chinese meridian system, pain and food testing, plus ethics, active listening and history taking and so much more over 12 modules.
In short: everything you need to get the basics right and start working with confidence.

From Level 2 onwards, things get exciting.

Yes, we explore chakras, crystals, essences and sound and we dive deeply into hands-on, body-based work:

• Muscle, arm, hand, hip, leg and foot protocols
• TMJ and injury memory work stored in muscles
• Detoxification and food energetics
• Adrenal balancing and food sensitivities
• Emotional work around beliefs, self-talk, sabotage and inner child patterns

One standout unit focuses on hip and spinal balancing, often creating profound shifts for sciatic pain, sometimes in just one session.

This is why Kinesiopractic® is unlike any other modality.

Sessions are guided by the client’s own body through muscle testing, ensuring each session is precise, personalised and powerful.

And the magic? Students work through everything for themselves first. The healing, clarity and growth students experience becomes the wisdom they later share with clients.

Practical. Powerful. Life-changing — for clients and for our students.

This is what makes Kinesiopractic® such an extraordinary course. You’re not learning “techniques”, you’re learning how to listen, to bodies, to systems, to signals that don’t come from the conscious mind.

WHY CRYSTALS? (And No, It’s Not Just a Hippie Thing)

So why do hippies, and other weirdos (and secretly quite a few engineers) have a thing for crystals and gemstones? Is it Pseudo-science, or pure belief, or just really pretty rocks we like to collect?

Let’s start with something we can all agree on - Everything is vibration.

As Albert Einstein famously said, “Everything in life is vibration.” And Nikola Tesla added, “If you want to understand the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” Which sounds suspiciously like something a crystal lover would say, except they were physicists.

So What Does This Have to Do With Crystals?

Everything vibrates:
• The earth
• The wind
• Fire
• Water
• You
• Your thoughts (yes, even that anxious inner monologue)

Crystals and gemstones are believed to work by focusing vibrational energy. Every object has its own energetic pattern and magnetic polarity. Crystals just happen to be exceptionally stable, organised, and consistent in theirs. In other words, they hold their frequency very well. (Unlike humans before coffee!)

Not Just Beautiful, Actually Useful!

Crystals don’t work by “magic”. They work at the level of subtle energetic systems, which feed down into the physical body.

They’re used to:
• Support physical wellbeing
• Enhance concentration and inspiration
• Support intuition and meditation
• Help restore balance at a very foundational level

And before you roll your eyes, here’s the fun part. Your phone uses crystals and your watch and radios, lasers, and electronics! So clearly, crystals are already running your life. You may as well use them consciously.

Where Kinesiopractic® Comes In (And Why This Matters)

Here’s the difference between owning crystals and working intelligently with them. In a Kinesiopractic® session, we don’t guess: we muscle test. That means finding which crystal is actually supportive for this client or student at this moment. And just as importantly, muscle testing allows the Kinesiopractor® to find out when not to use a crystal, when it would not be in the best interest of the client or student. Because yes, timing and appropriateness matter.

Why Students Love This Unit

Students consistently tell us this is one of their favourite areas of learning because they:
• Learn the science behind gemstones
• Build a practical crystal kit
• Gain confidence using crystals ethically with clients
• Learn discernment - not everything is for everyone, all the time (Which is a life skill, really.)

More Than Techniques — This Is About Listening

This is what makes Kinesiopractic® such an extraordinary course. You’re not learning a bag of tricks. You’re learning how to listen: to bodies, to systems, to subtle signals that don’t come from the thinking mind. And sometimes, those signals arrive via a weird, wonderful, beautiful stone gifted to us by Mother Earth. And honestly, how cool is that?

Enrol in the 2026 Kinesiopractic® Level 1 Intake and give your future self a life worth thanking you for.
