Here’s a fun conversation starter for .

? The earliest documented references to tonsillectomy date back to Hindu medicine around 1000 BCE.

Although India is credited with the origin of this 3,000-year-old surgical operation, Rome is credited with the first detailed description of the procedure.

Roman physician Aulus Cornelius Celsus described the process of dissecting and removing tonsils using a finger, a hook, and a scalpel as far back as the 1st century BCE.

Today, while most tonsillectomy decisions are made based on clinical examination and patient history, imaging is necessary when there is suspicion of a tonsillar mass, malignancy, or atypical presentation.

Have you worked on such a case? Which imaging technique did you use?

“Dental X-rays are dangerous and unnecessary. Can I skip them to save money and avoid radiation?”

Raise your hand if you’ve heard this from a patient. 🙋‍♂️ It’s one of the most persistent misconceptions in our field, and it can significantly impact treatment outcomes.

The reality is that modern dental X-rays expose patients to incredibly low levels of radiation. Less, in fact, than what you’d receive on a short flight or from natural background radiation in a single day!

The diagnostic benefits far outweigh the minimal risks.

So, how do we tackle this topic with patients?

✅ Use relatable comparisons. “You can have two dental X-rays and still receive less radiation than you would in an average day.”

✅ Emphasise prevention. Explain how early detection prevents more invasive and costly treatments later.

✅ Show the technology. Highlight your digital imaging systems that use up to 90% less radiation than traditional film.

✅ Address cost concerns. Help patients understand that X-rays prevent expensive emergency treatments and complications.

✅ Provide written information. Give patients take-home materials that explain the safety and necessity of diagnostic imaging.

Remember, patient education is just as important as the treatment itself.
When patients understand the ‘why’ behind our recommendations, compliance improves dramatically. 🦷

Do you have any winning strategies for addressing X-ray hesitancy? Share your experiences below! 👇

❓ : How do I ensure high-quality, consistent oral imaging while minimising patient radiation exposure?

Based on current expert recommendations and regulatory guidance, orthodontists should follow these key protocols:

💠Justify and optimise imaging use.

💠Use appropriate imaging technology and settings

💠Consider digital radiography over conventional film.

💠Use positioning aids to position patients correctly, capturing the needed area in a single exposure and avoiding retakes.

💠Regularly maintain and calibrate imaging equipment.

💠Use dosimeters to monitor occupational exposure for staff.

💠Adhere to the wisdom in application regulations and equipment guidelines.

We are here to support your imaging needs. That’s why, with every unit we sell, we offer:

✅Comprehensive training

✅SAHPRA application assistance

Why do we do what we do? For that moment, when a patient sees herself braces-free for the first time in 18 months.

Her smile is so broad. Her entire posture changes—her shoulders are back, her head is up, and she beams with confidence.

That shy teenager is now ready to face university interviews, job applications, and life’s biggest moments with her head held high. ✨

Charles Gordy says, “A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks,” but we say a smile unlocks confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Every orthodontal journey is a transformation story waiting to unfold. What’s the most memorable smile transformation you’ve witnessed in your practice?

Our AXIM Dental team has been at it again, inspiring the dental professionals of tomorrow at the University of Pretoria.

It was a pleasure meeting the 5th-year Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) students!

After a short introduction to AXIM Dental and an overview of our 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, the students had a good grasp of how we established our 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Ghrizinda, our National Dental Product Manager, then provided 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹. The class of ’25 gained first-hand knowledge about procuring the equipment and the vital requirements regarding:
