πŸ§Šβ„οΈ Top 5 Physio Tips for Winter! πŸ§£πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ
As the temperature drops, our bodies often feel the chill too β€” stiff joints, less movement, and more aches and pains.

πŸ‘‰ Follow along this week as we share 5 physiotherapy tips to help you stay active and healthy this winter!

2️⃣ Make Movement Part of Your Routine

πŸ•’ When it’s cold and dark, it’s easy to skip exercise β€” but consistency is key for healthy joints and muscles!

πŸ’‘ Tip: Schedule movement like a meeting. Even 10–15 minutes daily can improve mobility, boost mood, and reduce winter stiffness.

🏠 Try:

Morning stretches while the kettle boils

Lunchtime walks around the office or house

Evening mobility exercises while watching TV

πŸ“… Small, regular movement = big long-term results!

Need help creating a winter-friendly routine? Your physiotherapist can help you build one that fits your lifestyle.

πŸ’₯ PhysioMyth vs. Fact! πŸ’₯

❌ Myth: β€œPhysiotherapy is just massage and exercise.”
βœ… Fact: Physiotherapy is so much more! πŸ™Œ

Physios are movement and health professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions β€” from sports injuries and chronic pain to neurological, respiratory, paediatrics, and pelvic health issues.

πŸ’‘ Think: rehabilitation, prevention, education, hands-on techniques, and personalised care β€” all rolled into one profession!

πŸ§β€β™‚οΈ PhysioMyth vs. Fact! πŸ§β€β™€οΈ

❌ Myth: β€œGood posture means sitting up straight all the time.”
βœ… Fact: The best posture is your next posture! πŸ”„

Holding any position for too long β€” even a β€œperfect” one β€” can cause discomfort. Physiotherapists recommend frequent movement and posture variation to keep your body happy and pain-free.

So yes, sit tall β€” but also shift, stretch, and stand often! πŸͺ‘βž‘οΈπŸ§β€β™€οΈβž‘οΈπŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ’‘ PhysioMyth vs. Fact! πŸ’‘

❌ Myth: "If you have back pain, you should rest and avoid movement."

βœ… Fact: Movement is medicine! πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ Gentle activity and targeted exercises can actually help reduce pain and speed up recovery. Complete rest can sometimes make things worse by causing stiffness and weakness. If in doubt, consult a physio!

A Journey Towards All-Encompassing Well-Being

In a career spanning over 30 years, there are a number of milestones and turning points that paved the way to my current place as a Physiotherapist with a multi-disciplinary approach to women’s health and pain management.

That timeline looks like this:

1987: Graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy and worked for 1 year at Groote Schuur Hospital, gaining experience in cardiac rehabilitation, trauma and hand clinic treatments

1989: Relocated to Port Elizabeth and gained experience in private and public sector hospitals
