Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, but early detection and treatment 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬.

Treatment of breast cancer is multifaceted. Your doctor’s approach will depend on the 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 of the cancer and whether it has 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 to the lymph nodes or other organs.

🩺💊 While surgery is a crucial part of breast cancer treatment, it is often 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy.

When an infection has made your 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐱 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧, this condition is known as appendicitis. The infection may occur when the opening of the appendix becomes clogged with bacteria and stool. 🦠💩 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐱 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲.

🌋 If the appendix ruptures, the bacteria and faecal particles within the organ can spread into your abdomen. The consequences are life-threatening and require immediate surgery.

The easiest and quickest way to treat appendicitis is to remove the appendix. This surgery is called an appendectomy.

Goitre is a condition where your 𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫.

It’s associated with an abnormality of thyroid function: meaning you either make too much thyroid hormone (overactive thyroid) or too little (underactive thyroid).

However, in many cases the goitre does not affect the amount of thyroid hormones that you make. 🩸🩻 Your doctor may use a 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐧, 𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐲 to determine the cause of your goitre.

Treatment depends on the cause, the size of the goitre, and whether it is causing symptoms. 🩺 𝐓𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 about the symptoms, causes, assessment, and treatment for a goitre, visit our website: https://drduplessis.com/thyroid-swelling-goitre/

Self-examinations can help detect irregularities that might not be visible on a mammogram. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐩?

1️⃣ Don’t panic, but act quickly. You need to see a doctor who can perform an examination and order imaging investigations of the lump to be done.

2️⃣ A mammogram and an ultrasound of the breast will be performed. Based on these findings, a biopsy is usually recommended to determine whether the lump is cancerous.

3️⃣ If cancer is diagnosed, the next step is to determine the stage of the disease, as this will guide the treatment plan.
