🐾✨ Therapy Dog Thursdays at Huis Zonnekus ✨🐾

Every Thursday morning, our Home is filled with extra excitement as Cheryl-Lyn and her rescue organisation visit us — bringing along the absolutely gorgeous therapy dog, ROCCO.

Our residents thoroughly enjoy their special time with ROCCO. The smiles, gentle cuddles, laughter and meaningful interactions truly brighten their day. Animal therapy has such a beautiful way of bringing comfort, calm and connection — and we are so grateful to experience that each week.

Cheryl-Lyn has even created a stunning video photo collage capturing ROCCO’s visits — moments we will treasure dearly. 💛

We would like to encourage our family and friends to please support Cheryl-Lyn’s incredible charity work. She selflessly and unconditionally cares for so many pets who have been left astray and abandoned. Her heart for animals is truly inspiring — but she cannot do it alone.

She is in need of support in any way possible — whether through financial contributions or donations of dog food and pet supplies.

🐶 Donations can be dropped off at Huis Zonnekus, or you are welcome to contact Cheryl-Lyn directly to assist Cheryl Lyn's Rescue Organisation

Let’s come together as a community to support someone who gives so much love — both to our residents and to animals in need.

✨ A Beautiful Morning of Music, Movement & Memory ✨

Yesterday's Memory Care session focused on connection through music, imagination and gentle movement — creating moments of joy, laughter and shared experience.

Using familiar songs from years gone by, residents were guided on imaginative “memory journeys,” inviting them to picture themselves driving down a hill, feeling the breeze on their faces, taking in the scenery, and engaging in playful moments inspired by the music.

🎶 With “Mustang Sally”, we imagined being in a car, driving and seeing the world around us — hands steering, bodies gently swaying to the rhythm.
🎶 With “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, we imagined sprinkling sugar on one another — encouraging arm movements, smiles, and light-hearted interaction.

The session beautifully combined:
• Music from their era
• Imagination and storytelling
• Gentle physical movement
• Emotional connection through shared memories

The heart behind the session was simple and sincere — to use music as a bridge. A bridge to spark memory, joy, connection and presence in a way that feels light, respectful and uplifting.

Our heartfelt thanks to Soretha Winder, founder of Silent Music, and to TLC Outreach Projects for their unwavering support. Your dedication and compassion continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. 💛

Moments like these remind us that sometimes the most powerful connections happen through a familiar melody and a shared smile.

❤️🌹 Love Was in the Air at Huis Zonnekus! 🌹❤️

Today we celebrated a very special Valentine’s Lunch at Huis Zonnekus — and what a celebration it was! 💕

From the moment the music started playing, joy, laughter and pure fun echoed through our Home. Residents and staff truly stepped up to the platform, arriving dressed to impress and ready to celebrate in style. The effort, creativity and spirit were absolutely beautiful to see!

A delicious finger feast was lovingly prepared by Feedem, who also went the extra mile by transforming our dining hall with stunning Valentine’s décor to match the theme. The atmosphere was simply magical. ✨

It was truly a day to remember — filled with smiles, connection and so much heart. A big thank you to everyone who played a part, including the families of our residents who came on board to make sure their loved ones were included in this amazing team effort. Your support means the world to us. 🤍

And of course… congratulations to our Best Dressed winners! 🎉

🏆 Florence Curtis – Winner
🥈 Michelle Mitchell – 2nd Runner-Up
🥉 Emsie Nieuwoudt – 3rd Runner-Up (and definitely the most fun outfit!)
👔 Luciano Bagattini – Best Dressed Male (bringing all the swag!)

Well done to everyone who participated — you made the day extra special!

We want to carry this beautiful spirit of love, teamwork and togetherness with us throughout the year. Here’s to many more fun-filled memories ahead at Huis Zonnekus! 💖

🌿🐾 MCP Memory Care & Therapy Dog Visits at Anne’s Haven 🐾🌿

Wednesdays at Anne’s Haven have become something truly special. Our MCP – Memory Care Program volunteers spend meaningful time with our residents, guiding them through dementia-friendly activities that encourage memory, conversation, gentle movement, and connection.

From cognitive exercises and interactive discussions to simple activities that spark smiles and shared stories, each session is thoughtfully planned and warmly received. These moments may seem small, but they make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our residents.

A heartfelt thank you to Eike and Michelle, who faithfully show up week after week with patience, compassion, and genuine care. Michelle’s involvement is especially touching, as her husband is one of our residents here at our Home. Her dedication speaks volumes about her heart for Anne’s Haven.

We would also like to acknowledge Wilna, who joins the team whenever she is able to. Wilna’s mother is a resident at Anne’s Haven, and her willingness to serve alongside the team while supporting her own loved one is deeply appreciated.

This week was made even more special with a visit from Lee, a beautiful Alaskan Malamute therapy dog, part of PAT – Pets for Therapy. The joy, calm, and comfort Nini brought to our residents were truly heartwarming. We are excited that PAT will be visiting regularly, adding another beautiful layer of support to our Dementia Care Unit.

We are deeply grateful for the volunteers and partners who invest their time, hearts, and compassion into Anne’s Haven. Together, we are creating meaningful moments, comfort, and connection for our residents. 🤍

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: TLC Outreach Projects 🌟

Here are a few highlights we would love to share of the activities we have started for this new year in partnership with TLC Outreach Projects. 🤍

The TLC Outreach Projects team has already brought so much joy and purpose into the lives of our residents through their time, love, and dedication. Activities such as prayer, motor skills sessions, music chair exercises for seniors, puzzle-based memory care, colouring-in, and relaxing hand pamper sessions have been thoughtfully planned and warmly received.

A very special mention goes to Colleen Pietersen, whose commitment, compassion, and gentle presence have made a meaningful difference to our residents. Her heart for service and personal involvement truly embody the spirit of TLC Outreach Projects.

Despite their busy schedules and the incredible work they continue to do within the wider community, TLC Outreach Projects consistently makes time to visit our Home. Their ongoing support plays an important role in promoting the mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of our dear residents, reminding them that they are valued, connected, and cared for.

Huis Zonnekus is truly grateful for the time, resources, and compassion shared by TLC Outreach Projects. 🌸

We are excited and believe that this year will be filled with many more meaningful activities, joyful moments, and treasured memories together.

🎒📚 Back to School Fun at Huis Zonnekus! 📚🎒

Today at Huis Zonnekus Old Age Home, we kicked off the year in the most joyful way with our annual Back to School lunch – and what a celebration it was! Residents and staff embraced the theme and dressed up for the occasion, bringing plenty of laughter, colour, and school-day nostalgia to the day.

A huge thank you to Feedem, who spoiled us with a delicious lunch featuring chicken burgers with sweet chilli sauce, home-made fries, crispy onion rings, and fresh coleslaw 😋👏. As if that wasn’t enough, the residents were also treated to an energetic dance routine by the amazing Feedem staff, which had everyone smiling and clapping along!

We also took a special moment to crown our Best Dressed resident, with a well-deserved prize for the runner-up – proving once again that style has no age 🎉👗🧢.

As the school year begins, we would like to wish all teachers and learners a wonderful, successful, and fulfilling 2026 📖✨ May it be a year filled with growth, learning, and achievements.

Thank you to everyone who made this day so special. Moments like these are what make Huis Zonnekus feel like home ❤️
