Check out these awesome SCENTED stickers!

The olfactory system has a huge impact on our sensory and emotional regulation and very often kids struggle to tolerate certain smells and scents. Even something simple as perfume or the school's toilets...

This is a brilliant activity to work on tolerating smells, some a little stronger than other but still yummy and super fun!

The child can choose a scene and put stickers on to create a story while scratching and smelling the stickers

Mint
Chocolate
Butter popcorn
Pizza
Bubblegum

I enjoy this more than the kids!😅👌

Whipped cream and sprinkles!
For a little one that does not enjoy tactile input that much, but if we can eat it, he is keen!

We also incorporated some drawing skills and working on those finger muscles by trying to get the whipped cream out without help

This rocket man is launching into space in his space suit!

This ghost suit provides great tactile feedback and adding to regulating responses and also lovely proprioception when bumping and jumping into "planets"

Let's feed the dog! 🐶
This is a great fine motor activity to promote pincer grip and fine motor coordination

Also...
Sorting the animal pasta in the popcorn is a good tactile discrimination idea.

This little one is a hemiplegic (one side of the body is less functional) and this activity promoted the awareness and use of both sides as he eventually tried to stabilize the dog holder while the other hand feeds the dog and at the same time maintaing a sitting posture without leaning on one side

Is your child pressing waaay too hard when he or she is writing?
We often see this when internal (proprioception) and tactile feedback is not enough so the child presses harder to discriminate and feel where the pencil on the paper is.

Helpful tips that we tried in the practice this week👇

-Add craft foam paper under the page where the child writes, when pressing too hard you will press through the paper so it "forces" the child to not press too hard and be attentive to have a lighter grip

-Add a weight on top of the pencil/pen to add more feedback end deep pressure to add more input to hand muscles. The awareness will increase feedback to use during writing and helping the child not to seek more feedback by pressing harder on the pencil. Anything from pencil weights, prestik, or nuts and bolts can be used...we made use of two washing pegs

The kids love this and it actually makes a big difference👌

Did so many satisfying sessions with a teenager the last few weeks..
With many sensory difficulties and working on independence to follow instructions and do things all by herself (even though she can't really read)
♡We tried cake in a mug (Dankie Bouter Happies Baby and toddler food )
♡Making pizza in the microwave and she had to cook it for her parents at home
♡Making our own bath salts

When these children experience success and mastery it is so wonderful to see how faces light up! Oh and to make it just more exciting I added alot of sensory components, smell, taste, feel...

Chocolate, rose petals, melted cheese, rose geranium oil and top it all with a huge smile

PS How is this even work?

Very often children on the Autism spectrum struggle to express and understand emotions especially interpreting emotions and facial expressions.

We worked so hard on this little one's understanding of emotions and today for the first time he was able to express and explain emotions on balloons!
Note the super cute "love" emotion that he chose to draw. He tried to explain that he feels loved by his mommy and his face looks like this, with a heart nose and round cheeks when she tells him that she loves him

Starting the year on a good note!

If you have a busy body that wants to swing but also needs to write while maintaining a posture, you combine all three!

Working on:
☆Postural control
☆Balance
☆Bilateral integration (using both sides together)
☆Shoulder stability and wrist extension (needed for writing)
☆Letter formation

It's a win-win😄

What a fun session, yet with a simple activity today!

We started to walk our farm animals all around the racing track, then using a thick chalk to cover the grass again and then moving over to a racing track on an inclined board😁

Working on...
Midline crossing
Pencil grip (alternating from a thicker marker grip to a thinner pencil)
Eye-hand coordination
Motor control
Wrist extension

This little one had poor hand dominance, did not cross his midline and struggles with fine motor skills, but so super proud of him, he has come so far!
