This October, we share the inspiring story of Lungile Shangase—a mother, friend, and runner from Durban. During a routine self-examination, Lungile discovered a lump in her breast and promptly sought medical attention. In December 2012, she received a diagnosis that changed her life: breast cancer.

Lungile’s journey was not easy, but her determination never wavered. With the unwavering support of her loved ones and healthcare team, she faced each challenge head-on with courage and resilience.

Today, Lungile is cancer-free, living life to the fullest, and continually expressing her gratitude to everyone who stood by her through her journey.

As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, let Lungile's story serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection. Take charge of your health, and encourage others to do the same.

Dr Praniel Bennimahadeo presented a talk on “ The role of Mammography in Breast Cancer Screening” at a CPD event hosted by Busamed Gateway Private Hospital in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event was attended by general practitioners, breast surgeons, oncologists and pathologists.

We proudly share the story of Mrs. Zazi Shembe, who faced a tough battle with breast cancer after a routine check-up. Despite the challenges throughout her journey, Zazi stayed strong.

Lake, Smit and Partners Inc. were honoured to be part of the Reach for Recovery 5km fun walk in partnership with Icon Oncology South Africa, held on October 12, 2024, at the Durban Amphitheatre.

The event saw about 400 participants come together for a day filled with music, dancing, laughter, and connections—both new and old.
