Using the right Pain tools are important…

When you have pain it can be easy to try to find the single thing that went wrong, that you did, or that you didn’t do that caused your problem and try to find the single ‘fix’. Most of the time it won’t be possible to find that one thing – pain doesn’t work like that. Pain is what your brain makes when it thinks you are in danger. That danger can be physical, like a burn, or it can be anything else – losing a loved one, financial stress, a fight with your spouse. The right treatment is most likely going to be a combination of things packed into your toolbox, not just a hammer!

Be kind to yourself…

Chronic pain can cause feelings of shame, self-criticism and anger – this is normal, but you don’t have to stay stuck here. Research has shown that self-compassion (being kind to yourself) reduces pain intensity and distress. Acknowledging the struggle or challenge of what you are feeling, without judgement, recognizing that you are not a failure for feeling pain, and being kind and gentle with yourself can help.

Lower Back Pain:

Lower Back Pain is one of the most common conditions that we see in our profession.

There are multiple risk factors that may predispose you to experience lower back pain:

- Age
- Smoking
- Weight
- Occupation
- Lack of exercise

Lower back pain can be managed and prevented by the strengthening of muscles, stretches designed to improve your mobility (Pilates), as well as soft tissue techniques to relieve spasms and trigger points. Dry Needling may also be used to relieve muscles spasms.

We offer all the treatment methods mentioned above. Our team is skilled in evaluation and treatment of this condition.

If you experience lower back pain, we can help you!
You can contact us on 021 872 2400 / 0766853367 to make an appointment.
We look forward to assisting you!

Pacing is important to master to achieve the best results!

When pain becomes a problem, it can be hard to know how much of what to do without ending up in bed. You might try to push through, determined that pain won’t beat you or back off everything (especially fun) and avoid doing anything that might make your pain worse. Pacing (doing little bits, often) can help you do more of what is important to you, help reduce your pain and help you feel more in control.

Healthy lifestyle 🤸‍♂️🥑🍉
What does this look like?

Balanced healthy meals:
A well balanced diet is important to fuel our bodies as we go about our busy days. Each food group has different functions and therefor it is important to have each food group on our plate. Be sure to consult your dietician for more information tailored to your needs.

Mental well being:
A healthy mind is as important as physical health. Talking to a friend or consulting a professional for debriefing is of utmost importance. Taking a walk in nature and doing something that fills your cup may also help after a stressful day or when you are feeling down.

Physical activity:
Not only can your body benefit from exercise and movement but also your mental health.
A 30min stretch routine, a walk in the park or going to the gym can prevent stiffness, injury and make you less prone to chronic conditions. Your body will thank you!

Avoid smoking and alkohol:
Both smoking and drinking are considered poor coping mechanisms and are addictive.
They can also cause chronic conditions.

Staying hydrated and getting a good nights rest is also vitally important for a healthy lifestyle.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will reap many benefits. Let's get started today!!

Sometimes our healthy inflammatory process can get stuck – it doesn’t get the message that healing has occurred, so it keeps going, keeping the pain going too! This is when we need to make sure we give our bodies every opportunity to reset – eating well, sleeping well, and moving well can push reset on the inflammation system.
