Wits Students Surgical Society

Wits Students Surgical Society The society is a subcommittee of the Wits Medical Students Council (MSC) and is a member of the South African Society of Surgeons in Training (SASSiT).

Founded in 2010 with the assistance of the Department of Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand, the Wits Students Surgical Society is a platform for medical students and aspiring medical specialists in the art and science of surgery. Our core objectives are:
- Provide insight into a career of surgery
- Gain valuable surgical skills
- Collaborate with other surgical societies
- Provide a platform for relationships to develop between students and surgeons

The society is well established and continues to grow and mature with every event. The committee actively works to provide members with events, activities and experiences that will enlighten and develop them as they pursue careers in surgery.

Today, we observe Human Rights Day in South Africa 🇿🇦

We would like to take a moment to reflect on the courage and resilience of those who fought for freedom and equality. It is a day rooted in the memory of the Sharpeville Massacre, where 69 peaceful protestors lost their lives while standing against the Pass Laws. It is a powerful reminder of the price that was paid for freedom, equality and the dignity we have today.

As we remember the past, let us also keep pushing for a future where everyone's rights are respected and protected! ❤️

Founded on the belief that before any treatment, a child needs security, Marang provides a home, care, and a family for 12 incredible children living with chronic conditions.

We spent the afternoon handing out lucky packets and playing - but they gave us so much more in return ❤️
