In dynamic work environments, there is a common tendency to prioritize performance over all else; however, genuine productivity begins with employee well-being. Mental health and well-being are not only essential in our personal lives but also critical in the workplace. When employees flourish, organizations thrive. Promoting well-being and supporting employee mental health is fundamental to enhancing both employee satisfaction and organizational success. Management can cultivate a positive workplace culture by consistently exhibiting constructive and supportive behaviors.

Children’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. Be mindful of changes in behaviour that could signal distress. For example; Withdrawal or social isolation, Anger outbursts or sudden mood swings, changes in sleeping patterns and/or eating habits, sudden untily behaviour, a decline in their school performance, excessive tiredness etc.

NB: There is no such thing as “He/she is still young, they will get over it or will not remember”. Children see and hear everything.

Trauma often gets misinterpreted, which can leave people feeling overlooked/invalidated. Many assume trauma is only about major, intense events, but that's not the case.

Trauma can stem from the little everyday struggles—like unmet needs, ignored emotions, or missed opportunities. Think about things like having an emotionally unavailable parent, a teacher who brushes you off, or a friend who flakes out. These situations can hurt just as much. So, don’t downplay or invalidate your trauma or anyone else’s. Every experience that wounds the heart deserves kindness and healing. 🌸
NB: Validation is healing. Understanding is freedom. ❤️

THE POWER OF EMOTION COACHING IN PARENTING.

• What is Emotion Coaching?
= It is all about helping kids grow their emotional intelligence by guiding them through intense feelings with empathy, understanding, and validation.

When we pay attention to their emotions, name those feelings, and acknowledge their experiences, we empower kids to develop resilience and learn how to handle uncomfortable emotions. We also teach them that it’s completely normal and okay to feel all kinds of emotions!

• How does it work?
1. The first step in emotion coaching is *validating their feelings*. This means we want to show that we really get what they're going through.

For example: "I totally get why you're feeling lonely—starting at a new school can be tough when you're trying to make friends. It’s definitely intimidating to put yourself out there, and making close friends can take some time."

2. The second step is to offer support. There are two ways we can do this: emotionally or practically.

For instance, if we go the practical route: "I understand why you're feeling lonely because making friends at your new school is hard. Is there something you're interested in? Let's look for a club or a sports team you could join! Those are awesome opportunities to meet new people and form friendships!"

More examples below. Hope this helps someone. Happy Monday! 🌸

Many children and young people have experienced significant trauma in their lives, including bereavement, poverty, neglect and abuse, or witnessing parents experiencing mental health problems or substance abuse. All of these experiences can negatively affect their mental health. As a result, they may have difficulties with attention, learning and emotional control. These difficulties may translate into aggression, anger outbursts and challenging behaviours. Aspire counselling 🌸
