We’ve received some honest feedback lately about our packs leaking in the fridge during the thawing process. We hear your frustration, nobody wants a mess to clean up. We want to share the "why" behind our packaging and why we strongly recommend the "frozen transfer."
1. The "Bone-in" Reality 🦴
Our recipes include finely ground bone, a vital mineral source for your pet. Because our packs are vacuum-sealed, that plastic skin is pulled incredibly tight against the food. Sometimes, a tiny fragment of bone or a sharp ice crystal can create a microscopic puncture.
While frozen, these punctures are invisible and sealed by ice.
Once thawed, gravity takes over and liquid finds those exits.
2. Why not just use thicker plastic? 🛡️
It’s a natural question! We’ve tested thicker materials, but we ran into two major issues:
The "User Experience" Trap: Making the plastic thick enough to be 100% puncture-proof against bone fragments makes the pack nearly impossible to cut open safely. We don’t want you struggling with heavy-duty shears just to feed your dog!
Environmental Impact: Thicker plastic significantly increases waste, which is something we strive to minimise.
3. The "Oxygen Safety" Factor (The Most Important Part!) 🔬
Beyond the mess, there is a safety rule: Vacuum-sealed raw protein should never be thawed in its airtight environment. Certain harmful bacteria thrive in low-oxygen spaces as they warm up. By "breaking the seal" and moving the frozen food to a bowl or container, you introduce oxygen—the natural enemy of those bacteria.
The Pro-Tip for a Clean Fridge💡
To avoid the "leak" and the "logic" headache, we suggest the 10-Second Transfer:
Take the pack from the freezer.
While it is still a solid frozen brick, slice the plastic open.
Drop the frozen brick into a glass container or bowl.
Let it thaw safely and cleanly in the fridge.
We aren’t asking you to do this to make your life difficult, we’re asking because it’s the only way to guarantee a 100% leak-proof and 100% safe feeding experience.
