Could your back pain be caused by a temporary difference in leg length?
Maybe you've been told you have a "leg length discrepancy" โ and along with the label came a dose of fear, frustration, and a long list of expensive inserts, orthotics, or custom shoes.
But hereโs the truth most people donโt get told:
๐ There are two types of leg length discrepancy โ anatomical (structural) and physiological (functional).
And that difference matters a lot when it comes to treatment.
We can assess which type you have โ and more importantly, whether itโs contributing to that nagging one-sided lower back pain you getโฆ especially when:
๐ Getting in or out of the car
๐ Turning over in bed at night
๐โโ๏ธ Or even just standing or walking for a while
This pain is often coming from your SIJ (sacroiliac joint) โ a small joint where your spine and pelvis meet. A slight pelvic tilt or imbalance can cause irritation here, and itโs commonly mistaken for general low back pain.
The good news? If your leg length difference is physiological, we can usually improve it along with accompanying back pain โ often significantly โ with targeted physio treatment.
