I've just finished reading Fiona Phillips' book, 'Remember When', about her Alzheimer's diagnosis (and caring for both her parents before that). Some of the chapters were written by her husband, Martin Frizell. Martin makes an extremely valid point that, unlike other illnesses, there is NO care pathway for people with dementia. The diagnosis is given, and carers (as we all know) are usually left to their own devices. We get given leaflets and left to cope. That was my experience, and it has been the experience of thousands of other carers. Yes, I know there's no cure but we all know how challenging it is to care for a loved one, and people with dementia have the right to a good quality of life.
