We would like to congratulate our very own Dr Hansraj Mangray for this remarkable accomplishment.

In a momentous milestone for both UKZN and the field of paediatric surgery in South Africa, Dr Hansraj Mangray has become the first PhD graduate in the Paediatric Surgery Discipline since the founding of UKZN in 2004.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Durban, Mangray’s journey to academic and surgical excellence began at Earlington Secondary School. With parents who had limited formal education but a deep belief in the power of learning, he was encouraged from a young age to pursue Higher Education. The challenges he witnessed in the public healthcare system - such as waiting for many hours at clinics and sometimes not seeing a doctor at all - sparked a personal mission to serve and change the system from within.

Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg honoured Heart and Stroke awareness month by providing free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screening for our community to know their numbers. We encourage awareness about necessary health checks such as blood pressure from as early as the age of 20 years because high blood pressure is known as a silent killer. Staff and doctors were encouraged to get their hearts racing by participating in a rowing and cycle challenge – which was great fun. Dietary advice was offered as well as full body assessments and the meditation / relaxation and breathing session was well received as the staff were educated on the effects stress on their heart health. Contact Reshnee Beekrum: pxmPietermaritzburg@mediclinic.co.za for more information about our upcoming health days.
