Mandela International Day Campaign - 18th July 2025
DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE

Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated on 18th July each year to shine light on the legacy of a man who was an international peacemaker and the first elected president of ’free’ South Africa. The theme for 2025 is "It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity." This theme emphasizes the power of individuals to make a positive impact on the world, particularly in addressing poverty and inequality. It also aligns with Mandela's vision of a better world for all, especially the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized groups in South Africa.

In keeping with the theme and the powerful message it conveys, the Community Services team at Mowana is working on putting together between 30 to 40 Care Packages for their needy community service users. To prepare these care packages donations are urgently needed. Your donation of the items listed below will help us help them.

Toiletries and Personal Hygiene Items Including:
Toiletry Bags, Bath Soap, Face Towels, Guest Towels, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Shampoo, Conditioner, Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline), Hand Lotion, Body Lotion and Emollient Creams.

Winter Warmers
Small items of clothing such as hats, beanies, socks, scarves and thermals.

For hygiene and safety reasons all donated items should be new and unused. Please donate with an open heart and giving spirit. Your generosity and kindness will greatly assist with this initiative.

All donated items can be left with our Community Services Team at Mowana Head Office, 94 Roberts Road, Clarendon or alternatively with Catileen Peter, Social Worker at Sunnyside Village, 57 Mbubu Road, Blackridge.

If you'd like to make a cash donation please contact us on 033 3454711

Society's view of schizophrenia is often characterized by stigma, misunderstanding, and fear. People with the mental disorder are frequently labeled as "crazy" or "insane" and portrayed negatively in the media. This can lead to social exclusion, discrimination, and difficulty for the affected person to access resources. The 24th May 2025 marks World Schizophrenia Awareness Day. Today, Mowana social workers gave a talk to Mowana residents at Greendale Centre in Howick. Dispelling myths and creating knowledge are key to understanding schizophrenia and those living with the illness.
