๐น Meet the Team this Woman's Month ๐น
Dr Kasturi Moodley - specialist obstetrician gynaecologist practice manager Marlene Chetty shares her journey below ๐
"It has been a long journeyโ17 years in Dr. Moodleyโs practice and 9 years since I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an autoimmune condition that affects the colon. This journey has been filled with many ups and downs, but the support I've received from my husband is something beyond words. He has stayed up with me through countless nights, sat by my hospital bedside, and ensured I had the energy to keep going. Heโs cared for our two children, making sure they had a meal every day, even when I couldnโt. Despite my struggles, he took me to places and encouraged me, even when I had to wear diapers. My children are my greatest blessing from God, having learned to be independent from a very young age.
Dr. Moodley and my work family gave me faith every day. They encouraged me to keep going, showing me that life doesnโt stop because of a disease. They taught me to work through the challenges, making sure I laughed when I was down and had something to eat before starting my day. They took me to places I never knew existed, demonstrating that anything is possible with the right mindset. Dr. Moodley groomed me into the woman I am today, giving me the opportunity to find my career. She had faith in me, promoting me to office manager and later entrusting me with the accounts as Practice/Accounts Manager. It wasnโt easy, especially being so ill and taking on so much responsibility, but she stood by me, encouraging me, especially when I wanted to quit.
Living on one income and being critically ill, in and out of the hospital, wasnโt easy. Iโve gone from weighing 110kg to 50kg. Dr. Moodley helped me through this journey. I remember wearing oversized clothes because I never knew how to dress up, always being over 100kg. When I was given a prescription for antidepressants, Dr. Moodley took it from me and said, โYou can take this, or you can take time to sort your mind. Do your hair, pick clothes that fit you. If youโre comfortable with yourself, youโll start enjoying life more.โ She told me to pick myself up, reminding me that many women would love to have my figure. So, I took time for myself, and from that day, I felt good about myself and started feeling a lot better. It was all in my mind.
I love my job. Meeting different people every day makes me realize that there are others out there trying to make it through life, facing challenges just as critical as mine. It makes me see that waking up every day is a blessing. Without God in my life, none of this would have been possible. My faith in God is on another levelโHe has done so many miracles in my life. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, โFor I know the plans I have for you,โ declares the Lord, โplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.โ I believe that with God, all things are possible if you only believe. I trust that God will give me complete healing, and with the support of my doctors, my family at Jesus Worship Centre, and my faith in the Most High, I am confident that I am completely healed. All glory to God for where I am today. Exodus 15:26 reminds us that God is our healer, and I stand on that promise."
