KZN PREMIER HON. THAMSANQA NTULI SENDS CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING THE PASSING OF ALBERT MAZIBUKO.

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has conveyed his deepest condolences to the Mazibuko family, the globally acclaimed group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and all music lovers following the passing of Mr Albert Mazibuko at the age of 77.

Mr Mazibuko, born in Ladysmith, Embuzweni, was a revered cultural icon and one of the longest-serving members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, having dedicated over five decades of his life to the group since joining in 1969. His distinctive voice and enduring presence played a significant role in shaping the group’s unique sound, which captivated audiences both locally and internationally.

Premier Ntuli described Mr Mazibuko as a cultural ambassador who carried the rich heritage of isicathamiya music with dignity and pride. Affectionately known as “the librarian,” he was a custodian of the group’s history and a source of wisdom, humility, and guidance to many within the music fraternity.

“Mr Mazibuko’s passing marks the end of an era, not only for Ladysmith Black Mambazo but for the broader South African music and cultural landscape. His contribution to preserving and promoting our indigenous music on the global stage will never be forgotten,” said Premier Ntuli.

The Premier further acknowledged Mr Mazibuko’s role in advancing the legacy of the late Joseph Shabalala, ensuring that the beauty and significance of isicathamiya music continue to inspire generations across the world.

On behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and the people of the province, Premier Ntuli extended heartfelt condolences to the Mazibuko family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his remarkable talent and character.

“We call upon the people of KwaZulu-Natal and the country at large to keep the Mazibuko family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and to honour his legacy by celebrating the music and cultural heritage he so passionately preserved,” added the Premier.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

*PREMIER NTULI CALLS FOR PEACE, SAFETY AND RESPONSIBLE CONDUCT DURING BUSY EASTER WEEKEND IN KWAZULU-NATAL*

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has called on all residents of the province, as well as visitors from across the country, to prioritise safety, vigilance, and tolerance during the busy Easter weekend.

The province has begun experiencing a significant influx of holidaymakers, with traffic volumes increasing notably on major routes such as the N3 highway, where approximately 2,500 vehicles per hour have been recorded entering KwaZulu-Natal.

Premier Ntuli has urged all motorists travelling within and into the province to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey and encouraged responsible driving at all times.

The Premier further appealed to operators of buses and taxis transporting congregants to various Easter services and religious gatherings to prioritise passenger safety. He called for thorough vehicle inspections prior to travel and urged long-distance drivers to rest adequately, comply with speed limits, and observe all road safety measures.

Premier Ntuli issued a stern warning against drinking and driving, stating that law enforcement agencies will be out in full force across the province. Road Traffic Inspectorate teams will be deployed extensively, and there will be zero tolerance for alcohol-related offences, overloading, and unroadworthy vehicles. Offenders will face the full might of the law.
Importantly, the Premier made a strong appeal for peace and restraint during this period. He urged individuals who may harbour grudges or intentions of retaliation to refrain from acts of violence.

“This Easter weekend must not be used as an opportunity to settle scores or pursue acts of revenge. I urge all those who may have differences to choose peace, restraint, and dialogue over violence. Let us build a province rooted in stability and harmony, conditions that are essential not only for safe communities, but also for attracting investment and growing our economy,” said Premier Ntuli.

The Premier also called on individuals in possession of illegal fi****ms to voluntarily surrender them to the police.

“There is no place for illegal fi****ms in our communities. Those who are in possession of such weapons are urged to hand them over to law enforcement authorities before the police are compelled to act. Removing illegal guns from circulation is critical in reducing violent crime,” he added.

The Premier further emphasised the importance of safeguarding vulnerable groups, particularly children, minors, and the elderly, during the Easter period.

“Parents and guardians must ensure that children and vulnerable persons are not left unattended. Their safety and well-being must remain a top priority at all times,” said Premier Ntuli.

To further ensure public safety, the Premier confirmed that there will be heightened police visibility across all districts in the province to deter criminal activity and ensure a safe environment for both residents and visitors.

Premier Ntuli also extended his appreciation to all law enforcement and community safety stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Metro Police, Municipal Law Enforcement, and community safety structures, for their vigilance and dedication in safeguarding communities during this busy period.

Premier Ntuli concluded by wishing all citizens of KwaZulu-Natal and visitors a safe, peaceful, and blessed Easter weekend. He urged everyone to play their part in maintaining the province as a safe and welcoming destination.

PREMIER'S ENGAGEMENT WITH COMMUNITY SAFETY STRUCTURES.

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, convened a strategic engagement with Community Safety Structures in the Msunduzi Local Municipality under the uMgungundlovu District, as part of instilling a spirit of solidarity in fight against crime, before joining the Community Crime Fighting Imbizo.

The meeting, held at Poyindandi Community Hall on Saturday, 28 March 2026, was a precursor to the main Community Crime Fighting Imbizo at the Caluza Indoor Sports Centre. It brought together key community-based safety formations to align strategies, share insights, and strengthen coordination ahead of the broader public engagement.
In his address,

Premier Ntuli applauded the unwavering commitment and voluntary sacrifice demonstrated by members of community safety structures. He likened their dedication to that of the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, noting that their efforts reflect a similar spirit of selflessness and courage.

“During the apartheid era, there were men and women who refused to fold their arms. They endured torture, imprisonment, and even death so that we could enjoy the freedom we have today. We see that same spirit in you,” said the Premier.

He emphasised that crime prevention is a shared responsibility and cannot be left solely to the South African Police Service (SAPS). While police are responsible for enforcing the law and arresting perpetrators, communities play a critical role in preventing crime, sharing information, and safeguarding their neighbourhoods.

This preparatory engagement is particularly significant in light of the persistent crime challenges in the Plessislaer policing precinct, where communities continue to grapple with high levels of violent crime, including murder, assault, and gender-based violence. The situation calls for strengthened collaboration between law enforcement and organised community structures.

By meeting with Safety Structures ahead of the main Imbizo, the Premier sought to ensure that these formations are not only heard but are also actively integrated into the province’s crime-fighting approach. Their experiences and recommendations are expected to inform discussions at the main Community Imbizo, where broader community participation will be encouraged.
The engagement underscores the provincial government’s commitment to a proactive, community-driven approach to crime prevention recognising that sustainable solutions lie in partnerships between government, law enforcement, and the communities they serve, especially in high-risk areas such as Plessislaer.

The Safety Structures were subsequently awarded certificates following completion of training in various areas, including self-defense, crime scene management, and first aid, among others.

As part of the Provincial Government’s ongoing efforts to eradicate crime and implement a holistic, integrated crime prevention strategy, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, will tomorrow, Saturday, 28 March 2025, lead a Crime Prevention Imbizo at KwaCaluza, Ward 20, under the uMsunduzi Local Municipality in the uMgungundlovu District Municipality.

PREMIER NTULI TO LEAD MULTIPLE EVENTS, HEADLINED BY SILWA NECHILO GBV& F MARCH IN UMZINYATHI DISTRICT.

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, will on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, lead the Silwa neChilo March against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBV&F) in Dundee CBD, under the Ndumeni Local Municipality within the uMzinyathi District Municipality.

The uMzinyathi District continues to record a high number of GBV&F cases, many of which are later withdrawn following informal family interventions, where perpetrators are subjected to fines paid to victims’ families. This practice undermines the justice system and perpetuates a cycle of violence and impunity.

Silwa neChilo is a provincial campaign that provides a strategic platform to promote positive masculinity as a key pillar of primary prevention and social norm transformation. The campaign further creates a platform for men to actively engage in addressing the root causes of GBV&F across KwaZulu-Natal.

Premier Ntuli will begin the day by leading the Engangeni Ngesango Iyafohla campaign, an operation aimed at addressing illegal immigration and strengthening law enforcement interventions.

The Premier will thereafter participate in a roundtable discussion focused on confronting harmful cultural practices and patriarchal norms that continue to drive Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
