Have you ever been shopping at Grannies Attic?

It's' the perfect time of year to come and have a browse, there are just so many different items to choose from and they are so well priced. You're bound to find that bargain for Christmas. Shirts, dresses, jewellery, knick-knaks, cds, records, magazine and so much more.

And as it's a fundraiser, you'll be supporting a worthy cause! You'll find Grannies Attic at Sunnyside Village, open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2pm

A SUCCESSFUL OPEN GARDENS AT THE WOODGROVE VILLAGE

The Open Gardens at Woodgrove Village - Mowana was a success with a steady stream of visitors enjoying the gardens, homes on show, coffee shop and market.

As a fundraiser for Sunnyside Village, we raised more than R3000 and an array of toiletry items were donated for those of our Older Adults living on very limited means.

To each and everyone who contributed to the event in so many and varying ways, thank you so much. You are truly appreciated.

Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked or misunderstood particularly among older adults. As people age, they experience numerous life changes: retirement, loss of loved ones, declining physical health, and reduced independence. These transitions can take a toll on mental health, making awareness, understanding, and positive coping strategies more essential.

Promoting mental health awareness not only helps identify and manage mental illnesses early but also empowers older people to live meaningful, fulfilling lives through resilience and positive thinking.

Mental health awareness refers to recognizing, understanding, and managing one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in healthy ways. It involves being conscious of how mental health affects everyday life and understanding when to seek help.

Mental health awareness helps reduce stigma, encourages open dialogue, and ensures individuals receive the support they need. For older adults, awareness is especially important because many still believe that emotional distress is a normal part of aging. In truth, while aging brings its challenges, persistent sadness, hopelessness, or anxiety are not inevitable and should be addressed as genuine health concerns.

Sunnyside Village and Clivia residents engaged in a talk and mind stimulated activities to enable positive thinking. The activities were centered around relaxation and focused on constructive attitude to life holistically.

As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. We were fortunate to host Grey's Hospital Oncology Department, Radiologist Mpho Mbhele and Social Workers Londiwe Ngobese and Freda Harness.

The talk focused on the importance of early detection, support and education on breast cancer as well as other common cancers.

The awareness aimed to empower both staff and residents with vital knowledge about prevention,screening and the emotional aspects of coping with cancer. It also gave residents the opportunity to honour the month with the global campaign and to demonstrate our continued commitment to holistic care and community well-being.

The awareness entailed presentations from the above professionals, educational materials and an opportunity for questions and discussion. Our residents were also spoilt by the Oncology team with hand bags and goodies bag that came with various toiletry items.

Together we can support,promote and show compassion for those affected by Breast Cancer.

Remember to bring your donation of personal care essentials this weekend when you visit Woodgrove Retirement Village - Mowana Open Village!

As Mowana serves older adults across the financial spectrum, including those who need help as they only have their Older Persons Grant to support them financially, the cost of toiletries is beyond what a number of Sunnyside Village residents can afford. So any contribution, whether in product or money will help us all give the beneficiaries a sense of dignity and comfort. We are looking to make up packs for 50 people.

Roll-on deodorants for men and women
Toothpaste
Razors and blades for men
Talcum Powder
