Ankles and Knees Under Pressure

🏉 Ankles and knees take a pounding on the pitch. Prevent sprains and ligament injuries with balance and agility work.
Try this 3-drill combo:
• Wobble board or BOSU ball standing for 2 minutes each leg
• Single-leg hops in a cross pattern (4-way hop)
• Lateral shuttle runs with quick changes in direction
Repeat 2–3 times a week as part of warm-ups or conditioning.

Shoulders Built for Contact

🏉 Strong shoulders mean safer tackles.
Shoulder injuries are common in rugby, especially during contact. Strengthen and stabilise your shoulders with these key exercises:
• Scapular push-ups (to build shoulder blade control)
• Resistance band external rotations (for rotator cuff strength)
• Overhead carries (for dynamic stability)
Do 2–3 sets of each, twice a week.

The Importance of Prehab

🏉 Prevent the pain before the game.
Prehab focuses on balance, joint stability and movement control to reduce injury risk in rugby.
💪 Add these to your weekly training:
• Single-leg squats for knee control
• Side planks with leg lifts for core and hip stability
• Resistance band lateral walks to support the knees and hips
Start early in the season and stay consistent.
