Strong colour contrast can make a big difference for people with low vision. Combinations like black/white, black/yellow, or blue/yellow are easier to see, while colours that are hard to distinguish, such as red/green, can make everyday tasks more challenging.
Simple changes can help make daily life easier. Solid backgrounds, large bold fonts on signage, bright markings on steps and doors, and well-placed lighting all improve visibility. In the kitchen, try white boards for dark foods and dark boards for light foods, and around the home, use contrasting furniture against walls to make navigation easier.
For some people, yellow, orange or amber-tinted lenses can reduce glare and enhance contrast.
At Hilliar & Gray, we assess your vision and provide personalised, practical solutions to make everyday life safer and easier.
