Physio Friday!

Patients: which shoes should I run in??
Our Physio’s: the comfy ones!

They say a bad workman blames his tools, well a bad physio or runner blames the shoes without looking at the numerous other contributors to injury. Training history, previous injury, environmental factors, strength and mobility the list is actually endless... instead of changing your shoes, look if there’s any factors WITHIN YOUR CONTROL that you can change to improve your injury status.

On the prescription of shoes - don’t buy into the hype of running shoe companies, science says they only advise backed by science is to wear what’s comfortable for your foot.

Have a look at the infographic below citing scientific evidence for shoe technology!

Physio Friday!

Here’s a concept that we’ve been contemplating for a while - where does the line between rehab and strength & conditioning lie? There is no solid line! We encourage working together and realizing that Physio-Bio-S&C are heavily dependent on each other!

Infographic:
We have to understand that load > tissue capacity is the mechanism by which injuries happen - we can prevent injuries by manipulating load & improving tissue capacity. We also need to educate our clients on this

To successfully rehab our clients we need to give them structure and a program that gives them lots of small doses of exercise to promote recovery and increases strength/endurance/power.

Ultimately tissue capacity, exercise capacity is the big goal - improving this makes our clients and athletes resilient and robust for the daily physical demand of life and sports/exercise.

Give us your thoughts in the comments below and tag your awesome colleagues from other professions.

We’re fortunate to work in a brilliant Sport Medicine team with highly skilled colleagues
Carl Schmidt Melanie Carey Neil van Biljon Physiotherapists.

Disclaimer - we have NOT invented this concept 😂 but use it as an analogy for our clients.
