Michael’s Home for Children and Youth provides an environment that both nurtures young women and inspires them to grow and flourish. Through a variety of innovative programs and a supportive environment centered around reconnection to the essence of womanhood, St. Michael’s provides a unique passageway to adulthood. Michael's was founded in 1870 by the Grey Ladies, as a home for children orphaned by war. Today, it houses up to 25 girls ages 13-18 who are protected under the courts and the Child Care Act. Michael’s provides the girls with access to the resources they require as well as direct 24/7 support. Michael’s encourages reconnection to the central aspects of womanhood, and the expansion of creativity takes central focus. The girls receive training in art therapy, mindfulness, life skills, and more, and St. Michael’s is always looking for more volunteers to teach classes (see the “How to Help” page for more information). Through innovative, individualized approaches, St. Michael’s aims to create a home that is warm, welcoming, and encouraging, a place where girls can forge connections, acquire important life skills, and tap into their vast potential.
