Cape Doula Fahmieda

Cape Doula Fahmieda Welcome to Cape Doula. I am a certified childbirth companion/ birth and postpartum doula in state and private hospitals. It really is very simple.

Cook Nutritious meals for your family everyday with No Energy

So how does a Wonderbag work? You heat up your pot of food in a metal casserole pot with short handles. Bring food to the boil and simmer it for a short time, starting the cooking process. Then place the pot inside your Wonderbag. Wonderbag's clever heat retention properties allow food that has been brought to the boil to finish cooking while in the bag without the use of additional energy. Good things come to those who wait

While your Wonderbag cooks nutritious, hearty, family meals, you can be out and about at the gym, at work or at the shops. Wonderbag frees up your time to do stuff with the kids or catch up with friends. This fantastic heat-retention cooking bag allows you to cook amazing one-pot meals with minimum fuss and maximum flavour. Even cheaper cuts of meat tenderize and absorb flavours, giving you fantastic quality meals while saving money and energy.

Attended the Figo World Congress of Gynacology and Obstetrics and met doctors and Birth workers from across the globe. We represented doulas from South Africa and the world and it was a real privilege sharing with them how we implement simple non medical techniques in the labour ward especially in environments where resources are limited.
I attended a talk about violence towards women and I was bursting with admiration for Dr Rushdah Khan who stood up and used this huge platform to bring attention to the women suffering devastating violence in Gaza.

This ancient ayurvedic wisdom is passed down for generations and has many benefits to postpartum moms .
Dill Seeds can be found in any spice store and the recipe is simply adding 1 tsp of the seeds to 1 litre boiling water .Allow to boil on low heat for a few minutes. Sip this water throughout the day instead of tap water.
It is known to improve milk supply, aid digestion and assist in healing.

When I am with my client beyond 6 weeks postpartum I get to see the most precious smiles and gurgles.
MashaAllah, this little prince is not that little anymore due to his amazing mom giving him the best of nutrition.

I really enjoyed giving him a bath and massage

Our elders shared information through action. They showed you how to do it, which in many ways is a very powerful way to learn.
What if we dont have the support system we need in our most vulnerable time and turn to the internet for answers? It is overwhelming and confusing.

A doula will guide you every step of the way and I make it a priority to include all loved ones in the process if that is what you want .

Dont only prepare for your birth! Do more prep for postpartum because that is when you need it the most.

In many South African cultures, the postpartum period is a sacred time of rest, nourishment, and bonding.
Heritage Month is a reminder to respect and preserve these practices that protect mothers’ health and wellbeing.
Respectfully including the elders into the process of postpartum and child rearing will ensure you build a beautiful village for your child.
At Cape Doula, we support you in blending cultural rituals with modern care.

Heritage Month reminds us of the wisdom passed down through generations of women.
From our grandmothers to our mothers, traditions around pregnancy, birth, and postpartum have always carried deep meaning. As doulas, we honour these practices while supporting families in their unique journeys today.
What tradition around birth or motherhood has been passed down in your family?

It's heritage month and I'm exploring rituals of my heritage .
My parents are from India, and they practiced many of the traditions that helped mothers in their pregnancy and postpartum.
It may have been hard to understand back then, but delving deeper, I see the profound wisdom of some of the practices.

In the 8th month of pregnancy, the pregnant woman would return to her mother's home, where all her aunts and cousins prepared a feast for her . They showered her with love and her favorite treats . This is called the 'Roti' or 'naashta'

The last few weeks of pregnancy are sacred, and anxiety builds waiting the arrival of the little one.
Coming together of the elders and knowledgeable women to reassure you in a time when information wasn't readily accessible must've been the way to calm the mother .

Methi Laddu.
When anyone in the family has a baby, my mom sets out to find the freshest 'narel' coconuts.
The main ingredients are coconut, ghor (unrefined sugar) and fenugreek (methi).

The postpartum mom is gifted a batch of the freshly made sweetmeats that is intended to help with her milk supply and also make her feel happy when she eats it, increasing oxytocin that helps to expel her milk from the breast.

So much wisdom in practicing traditional rituals .

imagine how uncomfortable it must feel
to wear clothes after only knowing the safety of the womb.

imagine how frightening it is
to be hungry for the very first time
when you’ve never known hunger before.

how strange to be cut from the cord
that kept you close and connected to mama.
how lonely to suddenly not hear her heartbeat
the way you always have.

but then
your eyes open.
your tiny body trembles.
and she is right there.

her arms, her warmth, her milk.
her body teaching you:
you are safe.
you are held.
you are loved.

what a privilege it is to be
your baby’s whole world.
their comfort.
their home.
their everything.

and what a miracle that a mother’s body
still gives them all they need.
even outside the womb.

So much love and planning goes into preparing for birth… but what about after?

Postpartum is often overlooked, yet it’s one of the most tender, transformative times in a mother’s life. It’s healing, adjusting, bonding, and finding your rhythm in a whole new world.

If you’re in this season, please remember: you’re not meant to do it all alone. Rest. Ask for help. Let yourself be cared for, too. 🤍

You are doing beautifully, even on the days that feel heavy.
