Yes, and most people don’t realise this. When your hearing isn’t clear, your brain has to:
👉 Work harder to fill in the gaps
👉 Constantly focus to understand speech
👉 Strain during conversations
This is called listening fatigue. So if you’ve ever thought: “Why am I so tired after just talking to people?”
…it might not be your energy levels, it could be your hearing.
If this sounds familiar, it’s worth checking your hearing.

Getting used to hearing aids is a process, not an instant switch. Most people adjust within:
👉 2 to 4 weeks (sometimes a bit longer)
Your brain is relearning sounds it hasn’t heard clearly in a long time. So things like background noise, your own voice and everyday sounds can sound strange at first.
We guide you through the whole adjustment process - you’re not expected to figure it out alone. 🙌
Hello, Autumn! 🍂 As the seasons change, your ears need a little extra care too.
Here’s why colder weather matters for hearing:
👂Earwax and moisture: Cold, dry air can make earwax harder, which sometimes affects hearing.
👂Temperature sensitivity: Sudden cold wind can cause ear discomfort or even trigger mild tinnitus in some people.
👂Respiratory changes: Colds and sinus congestion are more common in cooler months, and these can temporarily affect your hearing.
Tips to protect your ears this season:
👂Keep ears warm with hats or beanies when outside
👂Avoid inserting cotton swabs
👂Book a hearing check if you notice ringing, muffled hearing, or discomfort
Your ears work year-round. Give them the care they deserve as the weather cools.
Hearing aids come in several different styles, and the best option for you depends on your degree of hearing loss, lifestyle, comfort preferences, and cosmetic considerations.
Here are the most common types:
🔹 Behind-the-Ear (BTE): This style sits comfortably behind the ear and connects to an earmould or dome inside the ear canal.
🔹 Receiver-in-Canal (RIC): One of the most popular modern styles. The main device sits behind the ear while a thin wire connects to a small receiver inside the ear canal.
🔹 In-the-Ear (ITE): These hearing aids are custom-made to fit the outer portion of the ear.
🔹 In-the-Canal (ITC) / Completely-in-Canal (CIC): These devices fit partly or completely inside the ear canal, making them very discreet and barely visible.
At Acoustic Appliances Audiology, we help guide you through the different options and recommend the hearing aid that best suits your hearing needs, lifestyle, and comfort. 👂

There are some things in life which you simply cannot compromise. HEARING IS ONE OF THEM. Hearing connects people – the joy of a grandchild’s laugh, the pleasure in a shared moment, a sweet nothing whispered in your ear.
Don’t compromise your quality of life – if you are suffering from a hearing loss or having difficulty hearing speech in noisy environments, don’t settle for anything less than the best solution available.
We make no compromises when it comes to quality and we are a world leader in hearing technology. In fact, we are so confident that we will refund your money if your hearing does not improve.
