True, read this about labour! 💙

THINGS THAT CAN MAKE LABOUR START SUDDENLY (EVEN WHEN YOU’RE NOT READY) 😳🤰🏽

One minute you’re chatting… Next minute your waist starts doing gbam gbam 😭
Labour does not always give notice.

Let’s talk about it 👇🏽

1️⃣ WALKING A LOT
Movement helps baby press on the cervix. Sometimes that pressure is enough to say “it’s time.”

2️⃣ INTÎMACY WITH YOUR PARTNER
Sémen contains prostaglandins that soften the cervix. Or**sm can also tr!gger contractions.

3️⃣ STRESS OR STRONG EMOTIONS
Fear, shock, or sudden excitement can release hormones that start labour.

4️⃣ FULL TERM BABY
Once baby is ready, your body doesn’t need permission again. It will start on its own.

5️⃣ INFECTIONS UTIs and untreated vag!nal infections can irr!tate the womb and tri!ger labour.

6️⃣ LOW AMNIOTIC FLUID
When fluid reduces, the body may decide baby is safer outside.

7️⃣ PREVIOUS BIRTHS
Second-time mums may go into labour faster and unexpectedly.

🚨 WHEN TO RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL
✔️ Regular contractions
✔️ Water breaks
✔️ Bloody show
✔️ Severe back/waist pain that won’t stop

Don’t wait at home “to be sure.” Be sure in the hospital.

💛 REMEMBER Labour starting suddenly does not mean something is wrong.
It means your body and baby have an agreement.

Your womb is wise.
Your body knows what to do.
Your delivery will end in joy. 🥰

Please ask your health provider, AI may be misleading...

Over the last few days, I’ve seen a post on social media go absolutely viral.
Major birth influencers I’ve followed for years, and even leading birth & maternity consumer organisations have enthusiastically shared this image universally praising how amazing women’s bodies are - specifically in this case, how incredible our breasts are at producing breastmilk.

Of course I’m not going to contradict that - I agree 100%

However, the image that people have been eagerly sharing is AI-generated and totally and utterly anatomically incorrect.

I’m actually quite speechless at how willing people have been to share it without first applying a critical eye to ensure that what they are sharing is, in fact, accurate information.

As a proud Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, I have an ethical obligation to the parents-to-be who come to me for childbirth education, and more broadly to the community who see my content on social media, that all the information I share is current, accurate and evidence-based.

Pregnant women are already swimming in a sea of misinformation. We can (and need to) do better ❤️

Fasting, you as the pregnant mom or breastfeeding mom decide. Or speak to your health professional. 🌸

As fasting begins for some families, breastfeeding mothers may have questions about what this could mean for them and their babies.

Every experience is different.
Some mothers choose to fast.
Some decide to wait.
Some take it one day at a time.

Your comfort and your baby’s behavior can help you decide what works best for your family. If concerns arise, you may choose to adjust your plans.

During non-fasting hours, eating and drinking regularly may help you feel better while caring for your baby.

Your wellbeing matters too.
If you would like to talk with someone, your local La Leche League group is there to listen and support you.

Oxytocin: A Better Child-Birth - Family Clinic

Oxytocin also called the love hormone is secreted during hugging, love making, child birth, breastfeeding and the period after childbirth( bonding).

I chose the name cause it's got everything to do with my profession, and we cannot go without oxytocin.

About me: I come from a beautiful small town in the Boland where I was brought up calm, free and safe. My birth journey began when I was young and there were a lot of odds against me. Those years there were no antenatal classes or nothing to prepare you for birth. I also received a lot of attitude because of my age. I birthed natural but in government hospital. My son inspired me to want to do more in life and I went into a degree of nursing. In my third year we started with Midwifery and remember going home in awe with how beautiful we are designed, and how baby knows exactly how to come out. I finished my degree and became a midwife in a tertiary institution. All the high risk women were referred to us,

as well as complications and abnormal babies. I learnt all my medical skills their but always wanted to know and do more for women. In my spare time I went to natural birth conferences, seminars etc to learn about other methods that women want and to improve the care we offer. I had my daughter 11 years after my son, also natural birth private this time, but this time I was in control. I married a wonderful husband that is very supportive of what I do. I completed a Honours degree in Advance Midwifery and Neonatology, this made me competent in almost doing any type of birth. Our hospital was sometimes very full and theatre busy then people would come into labour with breech presentation, twins etc and nature would just take its course, I then mastered all these skills. I then heard about this big hype years back called hypnobirthing, with this technique women could have comfortable, relaxed almost pain free births. I did the course and it was the best thing I've ever done, I can see the difference it makes in women's lives and how easy they birth. I feel more blessed now that I'm seeing women privately, I can see the difference I'm making in their pregnancy and birthing because I’m allowing them to birth the way they choose. Give your baby the best start in life, by having a beautiful, calm, relaxed birth...My aim is to try and assist all women and give them a better experience..
