One of the most frustrating moments for any holistic sport therapist, is when a coach decides that an athlete who struggles with a chronic injury, should rest a few weeks.
Chronic injuries are caused by continuous overload on a specific structure, which could be bone, muscle, tendons, ligaments, joints, etc., which leads to non-alignment of the body.
There are many causes of non-alignment, including previous injuries or surgery, emotional trauma, overtraining, bad postural habits, overuse and many more.
All of the above places the body in a position of βdangerβ and the brain responds by βlockingβ the fascia to protect the areas involved.
The body then needs to move around these fascia restrictions, which leads to compensation patterns, causing non-alignment and overload of structures which are not even related to the cause.
A proper holistic assessment will show us exactly where your movement is blocked, enabling us to restore you movement.
This process often takes as little as 3 sessions, depending on how long you have been using compensation patterns.
It is therefor clear why rest is not an option when it comes to chronic injury.
Rest is only indicated if the damage due to overload is substantial, but even then, it will be of no use if not combined with simultaneously dealing with the cause.
