Do you have pain running from your lower into your buttocks ❓⁣

You might be suffering from a Sciatic Nerve. ⁣

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.⁣

Symptoms⁣
Pain that radiates from your lower (lumbar) spine to your buttock and down the back of your leg is the hallmark of sciatica. You might feel the discomfort almost anywhere along the nerve pathway, but it's especially likely to follow a path from your low back to your buttock and the back of your thigh and calf.⁣

The pain can vary widely, from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation or excruciating pain. Sometimes it can feel like a jolt or electric shock. It can be worse when you cough or sneeze, and prolonged sitting can aggravate symptoms. Usually only one side of your body is affected.⁣

Some people also have numbness, tingling or muscle weakness in the affected leg or foot. You might have pain in one part of your leg and numbness in another part.⁣

Early physiotherapy helps people relearn vital abilities ⁣💪

From 24 hours after a stroke, physiotherapists begin rehabilitation in short frequent spells, focused on getting out of bed, standing and walking. This repetitive task training helps people regain movement and relearn everyday activities.⁣

Physiotherapists use assistive equipment to enhance stroke rehabilitation. Treadmill training improves walking speed and endurance. Virtual reality training may be beneficial alongside usual care but should not replace conventional therapy approaches. ⁣

Physiotherapy teams help stroke survivors incorporate the physical activity recommendations into their daily routine to reduce the risk of another stroke by up to 35%.⁣

🟡 Physiotherapists use laser therapy as part of their treatment, in conjunction with other treatment techniques. The aim of your treatment should not only be pain relief, it should look at the root of the problem and how you can improve as a whole. And that is why you shouldn’t expect to get laser treatment in isolation. The laser treatment itself tend to last anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes, depending on the size and depth of the structure being treated. This time will be incorporated into the overall time of your treatment session.

We are qualified to provide low level laser therapy (LLLT). They will be able to adequately determine if laser treatment will benefit you and effectively incorporate into your treatment plan. Mostly, it is used on structures like ligaments, tendons and joints that is made up of much more collagen. But, it can also be applied on all kinds of musculoskeletal injuries to help reduce pain, inflammation and encourage cell reproduction.

Lasers with an output power of less than 0.5 Watts are classified as LLLT (low level laser therapy), whereas lasers with an output power of more than 0.5 Watts are classified as HPLT (high power laser therapy).

🟡HPLT creates heat on the surface of the skin due to their higher power density and these lasers are used in the laser medicine field to cut or destroy tissue (e.g., eye surgery)

🟡LLLT is often referred to as “cold lasers” since they do not create a heating sensation during treatment. This is the type of laser therapy that is used by physiotherapists.

The difference between Physiotherapy and Biokinetics

🟡A Physiotherapist, according to the South African Health Professional Board, will assess, treat and manage a wide variety of injuries by means of hands-on, manual techniques. These techniques include soft tissue release, mobilisation, manipulation and dry needling, as well as electrotherapy modalities. Physiotherapists specialise in a variety of medical fields, such as orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory, cardiovascular, obstetrics, sports medicine, paediatrics, geriatrics, intensive care units and general rehabilitation.

🟡A Biokineticist‘s primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise. According to the very same Board, this professional treats people with a variety of sports injuries using exercise therapy based on scientific evidence. This kind of rehabilitation is applicable for people with chronic disease, sports injuries and diseases of lifestyle. In addition, a biokineticist will promote health & wellness, seek to maintain a patient’s physical abilities, as well as provide a specialised physical activity programme.

Dry needling is practiced by physiotherapists as it involves the insertion of a needle into soft tissues with the aim of decreasing myofascial tension and improving musculoskeletal function. ⁣

So instead of digging our fingers into the sore parts, we can insert a needle to do the same job.⁣

Dry needling is usually used on muscle inflammation. Most gym goers experience these pain often and ignore it until the pain becomes unbearable. ⁣
