“Imagine, for a moment, needing someone for the most basic parts of your day. To scratch your nose. To brush your teeth. To eat. To go to the bathroom.

None of our residents chose this life. They didn’t choose the accident, the illness, the moment that changed everything.
It is a hard reality—one that is often cruel and deeply unfair.

But what is even harder, is the silence that follows. The marginalisation. The way society looks away. The visits that don’t happen. The support that doesn’t come.

And yet—despite all of this—our residents still feel. They still hope. They still appreciate. A visit matters. A conversation matters.
A warm meal, a hot shower, clean bedding—these are not just services, they are dignity.

And here is where we come in. Our role is not just to meet needs.
It is to restore humanity where the world has overlooked it.
To treat every person not as a task, but as a life—full of history, personality, and worth.

Because while they may depend on us physically, they should never feel less than us as people.”

We welcome Brendan Stones to Cheshire this month. Brendan joins us from East London, and is bringing his positive energy to our Home, along with a heap of creative talent. A summary from Brendans granny:

'Brendan is an energetic and outgoing young man with broad interests who embraces life enthusiastically. He was dealt a devastating blow when he suffered his first stroke at the age of 3. Over the next three years he had multiple TIAs and several strokes, each time fighting back bravely and struggling to regain the functions that were affected. At the age of 6 he finally received the diagnosis of Moyamoya disease, an incurable progressive condition that affects the blood supply to the brain. In 2014, at the age of 7 he had brain revasularisation surgery, but it was unfortunately too late to prevent the massive stroke that followed. His whole body was completely paralysed and for a week he was in ICU with his life hanging in the balance. At the lowest point he he lost his sight, but fortunately it returned. With his inimitable determination he faced the long road to recovery, learning to swallow, sit, speak and eventually walk again. Now, 12 years later, he has a good quality of life, and accepts his limitations with fortitude. He has a positive attitude to life, despite having been robbed of many of the things other teenagers take for granted.
Brendan discovered his passion for beading in 2020 during lockdown. He derives great pleasure from threading beads, and is very good at it, despite having only one functional hand.
He soon started talking about his “Beading Business” and wanting to sell his creations. Brendan has had successful stalls at markets in Grahamstown, East London and Knysna.
Brendan is very excited about this venture and your support is much appreciated.
Brendan does receive help and support to finish off his products from his brother and other family members'.
Welcome Brendan, looking forward to sharing this journey with you!
